Today on Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember the six million Jews who were senselessly murdered and honor the lives that never had an opportunity to flourish because of prejudice and evil. The need to prevent hatred and violence in our community has never been more important. In the memory of those who were lost, and in honor of those who survived, let us unite to build a more just and peaceful world for all, teaching our children #NeverAgain. #YomHaShoah #Community #MovingForward #StrongerTogether
Today, San Diego for Every Child, a nonprofit coalition housed under Jewish Family Service of San Diego, launched Resilient Communities for Every Child, a guaranteed income pilot project that is part of the Mayors for a Guaranteed Income initiative. Thank you to Sara Jacobs, Mayor Todd Gloria, and Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis for their visionary support of this project. Launching in Fall 2021, this innovative program will distribute funds that are meant to supplement, rather ...than replace, the existing social safety net and serve to achieve economic justice and help address the racial and gender inequities that impact the lives of children experiencing poverty. More information about the program’s launch and participant eligibility will be announced in the coming months. This Wednesday is Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. Join us later this week for the Jewish Federation of San Diego County's community-wide virtual presentation as we listen and learn the Shoah through multigenerational perspectives. This year was especially difficult for Holocaust Survivors as they aged and dealt with isolation during the pandemic. Bringing together our community for this annual memorial is more important than ever. We applaud the Biden-Harris Administration and we ar...e optimistic that this is the first of many steps to rebuild our immigration system and restore the asylum process. There is more work to be done and we will continue to do so with all levels of government, our partners in the SDRRN and the California Welcoming Task Force. It’s #ThankYouThursday we’d like to give a big shout out to the Senior Gleaners of San Diego County, who have been delivering up to 500 pounds of fruit weekly for JFS’s no-touch drive-thru food distribution. For the past 26 years, Senior Gleaners have been gleaning fruit and donating to local agencies around San Diego to help feed individuals and families. If you’re interested in helping pick fruit, or have trees that need to be gleaned for a good cause, contact the Senior Gleaners San Diego County to find out more. #community #volunteer #movingforward #strongertogether
