Quick tip: Sometimes septic systems have a distribution valve after the septic tank. These should be switched periodically throughout the year for best results. Switching fields allows one to rest while the other field processes and disperses the effluent.

Quick tip: If you are experiencing a back-up or your toilet is not working, check the clean-out. If its empty you may not be in need of a pump, you may have a clog that a quick snake can fix. If the clean out is full or overflowing call a professional right away, your septic tank is in need of service.

One of the best things you can do to for your septic system is to install an effluent filter. It will catch solids, toilet paper, and other non-organic things from leaving the septic tank and plugging up the leach-field. Also, when you have your septic tank pumped, the pumper should clean the filter too.
