I have long been a proponent of the idea that, to insure a decent car count, the promoters need to hold races for the class. Recently there was discussion of a track cancelling a race so as to not interfere with races at another track, ultimately resulting in no racing at either track. Here in California we have 3 IMCA classes, modified, northern sport mod, and stocks. I would guess sport mods have the most cars with mods close then stockcars. This coming weekend you can race... sport mods at Ocean, Bako, and Antioch. Mods at Antioch or Bako. If you have gas money grab your sunscreen and water and head for the desert where both Casa Grande and Yuma are racing mod's and sport mods. Yuma is even racing IMCA hobby stocks If you spent your hard earned money on an IMCA stockcar you can race at,well, ahh ,you could go to???. They have some cool old westerns on INSP channel this weekend. See more

Happy Easter everyone. This has been a very long week for me. Our crop duster airplane may be going to a new owner in Mexico next week. We have been going through it, getting it ready. After Jeff's last race in the mod he reaffirmed his disdain for the mod's and decided stockcars were the plan. As I am once again in the mod l raced Ocean Friday night. Track was uncharacteristically good. Smooth, kinda slick, no dust. Due to our continuing austerity efforts I was on very old t...ires. I still managed to get to 8th, starting at the back. Had a good time. Jeff had planned to race the stockcar at Antioch Saturday but we have helicopter work tomorrow so we spent Saturday getting ready. There is a rumor circulating at the shop about a Ford powered stockcar and a second stockcar, 2018 Jet, that would be for sale. We would race it until it sells. We will see how that goes. Have a good week everyone. See more

Jeff attempted to race Merced last night. We parked next to our friends, Mike and Danny Roe, and our friends from the desert Tommy and Bricen took time on their way home to help us. While we had a good time in the pits our track time was one of those nights you want to forget. The Ford motor had no power. We wanted to break the motor in on gas, don't think the carburetor likes the Ford. As you can see by the color on the spark plugs the motor was way too rich. After finding o...ne plug with no color I thought I would do a compression test. All around 180 except the one with no color. About 30?? Turns out the motor will not run if the intake valve won't operate. The stud had come loose, let the rockerarm get out of position. Put the alky carb on and make all the valves work, should be ready to go. Iowa trip on hold due to the fact it's colder than brass underwear back there. Looks like racing in California next weekend. Have a good week everyone. See more

We sprayed almonds with the airplane this week, finally!!! This has been a disappointing tree season to say the least. Not enough rain and low almond prices to blame. Well there's always racing. With a last minute change of plans we decided to send the old guy to Antioch with the stockcar. The car was way too tight in the heat, wouldn't turn, so I loosened it up for the main. The track ended up slicker than I expected, my changes were a bit excessive. Starting at the back I s...lipped my way to 8th. Somehow I missed the wrecks, car is undamaged. Looking forward to a rematch on the 3rd. Very hard to get Jeff to convey his desired race plans but he is making noises about running the mod but only if it is Ford powered. While I want no part of the million dollar to win sprint car format Merced race, Jeff might. We freshened up the Ford, it is about done, looks like the mod is getting a Ford next week. Thanks to everyone, especially Banes, for their help in the pits. Have a good week everyone. See more

We had planned to race, both Jeff and I, at Hanford Friday night but the modified portion was canceled so we loaded up the stockcar for Jeff. Just as we were leaving the shop we got a call to spray in Hollister Saturday morning so I stayed behind to load the helicopter on the trailer and get ready for Saturday. After I finished I went to the track to help. Over the years I have watched Jeff do well on tracks from a tiny dirt track in a go kart to an ARCA car at the big track ...in Daytona. Given the necessary equipment and not having any bad luck he usually does well. Friday night was his night! Fast time in the heat and main, 1st place in both. Jeff and I thank all for the best wishes. Anyway, Saturday morning Jeff and went to Hollister, sprayed 6.6 acres of romaine lettuce. My little pickup doesn't pull the big trailer well so we are trying to equip the open trailer for the mod. The current plan is for Jeff and I to race Antioch next weekend. There is rain in the forecast next weekend for both Antioch and Bakersfield. I know of a place where they are racing next weekend, no rain in the forecast, temperatures in the middle 80's. Interesting?! Have a good week everyone. See more

Finally got to race in the desert! Went to Cocopah this weekend, I was concerned about the weather for the trip but turned out to be good. Decided to take the stockcar. We needed to shake down the car with the new gen 2 Bert transmission (best thing since peanutbutter), and new carberator. I was a little surprised about no hot laps but with only 8 cars I just started the heat in the back. I haven't been in the stockcar in a while, gotta admit it took me a few laps to get ba...ck in the groove. Got the car beat up by a spinning car but could continue. In Friday's main it took me too long to get around a couple of slower cars so,even though I ran down the pack, I didn't have enough laps to advance finishing 6th. With a great deal of help from the neighbors (Daffern's) we got the car looking decent for Saturday. I decided to be a little more aggressive in Saturday's main. I got by the slower cars quicker and while I was once again running down the 4th place car I ran out of laps. Friday my fast time was a tenth slower than the winner, Saturday my fast time was quicker than the winner. When I picked up my purse money (100$ Friday, 150$ Saturday) I found out the 4th place car was DQed for shock droop. I hated to see that, it was fun racing with her. All in all I had a great time, got to spend some time with my desert friends. After Jeff sees the car I'm not sure if he will let me race it again, might have to send him out of town on business. Have a good week everyone. See more

First off this week I think we all need to thank Bernie Sanders for the smiles. I think the humor derived from such an innocuous act clearly demonstrates how bad we need a reason to smile. We sprayed a little job with the airplane this week. First time I have sprayed with a fixed wing in over 2 years. Didn't hit anything, guess I am once again current in a fixed wing. We are currently caught up, waiting for the rain. Almond bloom is about 3 weeks away. If we are in a wet peri...od the trees will need to be sprayed. With over a million acres of trees and vines in Madera county alone this becomes a daunting task. We used to gear up, more equipment, more people, make sure everything is ready to go. After a few dry years we realized that plan was folly. If it's a dry spring, no one calls, the money spent getting ready was wasted. Now a days we get what we have ready, turn off the phone, do what we can. Lots of racing in Arizona coming up. Every time I plan to go racing my plans are foiled by work so I have developed a new strategy, get everything ready and when the racing opportunity presents it's self if I have no work sneak out of town before anyone knows I am gone. Have a good week everyone. See more

Picture taken from my office desk. We flew several days this week. I had to do a little today because of crew issues during the week. I only did 3 loads today so I had Brian stay home, loaded myself. Must say I appreciate what Brian does a little more today. Loading helicopters sucks! Got to race Stockton with the modified yesterday. Mr Vedder was chiding me about my lack of top10 finishes. Well I guess I will have to show him! Started the main near the back, worked up to 8th.... With the sun in my eyes I kinda lost where I was on the track, lost it in turn 4. Went to the back, worked my way back up to 8th but I went stupid, car pushed up coming out of 2 on the last lap and lost a couple of positions. Still finished 10th on the lead lap. With my senior discount a 10th should be good enough for 7th or 8th,certainly no worse than 9th! All and all my finish was good enough to enable me to counter harrass Paul at the next race. Have a good week everyone. See more

I normally post our weeks accomplishments on Sunday but I guess this week has left me a little shaken. Watching a failed coup unfold in our nation's capital on TV this week kinda makes anything I have to say seem very unimportant. Have a good week everyone.

Got to race this weekend. Stockton on Friday. I have never been to the dirt track in Stockton, spent most of the race trying to figure the track out. Very rough and hooked up in 1and 2,dry and slick in 3and 4. While I finished in one piece I certainly have room for improvement. On positive, I went with a rough set up I have come up with. Big improvement!! I may have finally gotten the rough tracks doable. After changing the gear, rf and lr shock and my super secret chassis ad...justment for Antioch I loaded up and headed for Antioch. The track was smooth and very fast. I developed a fuel pressure problem and had to pull off. Came into the pits where the guys in the next pit,( thanks to the Banes for their help!) put in 5 gallons of fuel. The car was a little better. I was not happy with my performance in the heat, just needed to go faster. After I went back out I decided to try harder. The more I pushed it the better the car felt. May be on to something? Currently planning to take the stockcar to Cocopah next week if work allows. Have a good week everyone. See more

Even though we didn't do any flying this week we managed to stay busy. Jeff is on his way back to Iowa this morning but was very busy while he was here. We have had a significant oil leak on the helicopter. The upper engine oil seal was leaking. Changing this requires using a boom truck to lift the transmission and rotor system off of the helicopter. That works best with three people. We also replaced an oil seal on the tail rotor gearbox to stop an oil leak. His next task wa...s computers. Our old computer failed taking our crop dusting billing/record keeping and reporting system with it. Jeff set up a new computer with a new operating system. Must have been demanding, looks like it took 4 Dr Peppers to accomplish. We have also made good progress on getting my mod ready for Cocopah. I am looking forward to spending some time in the Yuma area! With the flying I have been stuck here pretty much since June. In closing Jeff and I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Hope to see you and yours at a race track soon. See more

Sprayed celery Friday. That should wrap up the celery spraying for the year. We were able to bring the helicopter home for some much needed maintenance, seems it has developed an impressive oil leak. We will start on it in the morning. Jeff made it back with some goodies for my mod and some bumpers for the stockcar. I was finally able to preregister the stockcar for Cocopah. The plan is for Jeff to race the stockcar, me the mod. It is unclear whether Jeff will be back in time... to race so I am the backup driver. Jeff has another essential agri business trip to Iowa planned around Christmas. I have the Ford motor for my mod ready to go back together. Parts are coming FED X,I am expecting delivery by the end of 2021. As a backup plan we are putting the 415 in the car. Not sure if this is the way to go but some of the midwest guys start the season with an open motor. Guess we will see. Have a good week everyone. See more

We had a productive week. Brian pulled the body off of the mod and pulled the motor after washing the car. The 347 Ford had a lot of racing on it so we decided to freshen it up. Good decision, it needed it. Going back together with new rings, bearings, and a custom ground cam. We were able to get the Mooney ( people airplane) to Madera where we will repair a fuel pump leak and do an annual inspection for a customer. Finished up the week spraying celery on Friday. As almost ev...ery racer in the western half of the country, we are getting ready to race Arizona in January. The stockcar is in the trailer, still ugly, but fast ready to go. There are two races in early January in Arizona. Both well run, first class programs at great tracks. For me,in my mod, the Wild West Shootout may be a better option. In my opinion the car count at Cocopah is going to be beyond impressive. For an old " speed challenged " mod driver the USRA race may be better. Jeff has been in Iowa on an essential agri business trip. Turns out he is about 30 minutes away from a American Racers distributor and will be returning this week. We also have a 600+ hp 415 we can put in the mod. We will make a decision after a Streeter family conference. Have a good week everyone. See more

First off, congratulations to Darryl Hughes for his great weekend at Cocopah. I had planned to race Cocopah this weekend but they postponed celery spraying to Sunday, then on Friday to next week, so I raced Merced Friday, Antioch Saturday. Got crashed out of the B Friday by a spinning car, finished 11th out of 16 in the B at Antioch, not good enough. I made some changes, the car was ok but seemed very erratic. My driving is somewhat erratic, didn't think much of it but as it t...urned out the car is about 3/4 inch towed in. As you can see it was a bad weekend for wheels! Being the last race of the year it's time to get ready for next season. After the race my car weighs 2582 with about 18 gallons of fuel. The Ford combo is heavy. Jeff wants to build a Ford IMCA stockcar. I am sure I could shave 100 lbs off with a crate motor. Don't know if that would help much but I certainly need all the help I can get! Have a good week everyone. See more

Jeff left for Iowa early yesterday. I called him this morning, he was already in Kansas City! Turns out due to the Rona motels in Tumincary New Mexico are limited to 25% capacity so he had to catch some shuteye in a rest stop. Travel through New Mexico can be challenging. We continue to make progress on the second helicopter and also have a " people aircraft " to work on. We are getting a ferry permit from the FAA to bring it to our shop in Madera for some repairs and an annu...al inspection. Due to last week's rain we sprayed celery on Thursday instead of Wednesday. This week's spray is scheduled for Wednesday. I have been trying to race in Arizona all year. Racing Yuma Thanksgiving weekend is kinda a tradition for us so I am going to try to get to Cocopah next weekend. Jeff took the F250 to Iowa due to the 4 wheel drive so that leaves me the F150 with the Jr. whimp 6 cylinder. May need someone to help push me over the hills. I am normally very conservative, don't do stupid stuff, but may give it a try. Have a good Thanksgiving everyone. See more
