Aloha Bay Area Ohana, super #blessed to be back #gigging this at @noelanisislandgrill this Friday Feb. 12 530-8pm. #hawaiianstyle #hawaiianmusic #islandmusic #livemusic
Welina mai ke aloha! Mahalo piha to those of you who joined Saturday's Zoom panel discussion, "Talk Story: Finding 'Ohana in Pasifika and the Diaspora". This wa...s in conjuction with Netflix's new movie, Finding 'Ohana, filmed here on O'ahu starring Native Hawaiians Kelly Hu, Branscombe Richmond, Kea Peahu, and Alex Aiono. It's a story of finding courage, finding home and finding 'ohana. Many of you may not know that the 3 of us did not find out we were 'ohana until after we started our band. Last week Sunday, January 17th, marked the 128th anniversary of the illegal overthrow of our beloved Hawaiian Kingdom and Queen Lili'uokalani. When 'Uhe'uhene was asked to share a song of finding courage and hope, Kaulana N Pua was the most obvious and befitting choice. A song composed by Ellen Prendergast in 1893 as a request by members of the Royal Hawaiian Band opposing the illegal annexation of Hawai'i and wrongful imprisonment of our Queen by the United States of America. Its original title was Mele 'Ai Phaku (Tfhe Stone-eating Song) and was also known as Mele Aloha 'ina (Patriot's Song) honoring many Hawaiian loyalists who loved their Queen and land so much they would rather eat stones and fight till death before signing an oath to the USA. Queen Lili'uokalani did not want any bloodshed of her people and foresaw a generation who would find courage to fight to make things right and bring hope for Hawai'i our home. Please enjoy our version of Kaulana N Pua for our Kingdom, our Queen and our lhui. E! See more
NANI WAI’ALE I grew up in Pi’ihonua, just outside of Hilo town on the slopes of Mauna Kea alongside the Wailuku river. My home is a just short walk from Pe’ep...e’e Falls and Boiling Pots. It is here where the Wailuku River swirls and churns, creating a turbulent and exhilarating display of rushing water. The raging river flows another mile and a half toward the ocean before it becomes the famed Wainuenue with its 80 foot drop to the dark waters below. The misty spray of this waterfall creates rainbows to greet visitors who come to marvel and celebrate it’s beauty. Furthest upstream from Wainuenue and Pe’epe’e Falls is Wai’ale Falls. Lesser known, but no less spectacular, the falls are split into two tiers creating a double drop of cascading water. Every time I return to this place, a flood of memories from my childhood are unlocked. I can always find peace here and am able to center my mind and realign myself. Returning home always has a way of reminding you who you are. For my latest release, I wanted a visual image that tells my story much like my music does. Mahalo to Hilo boy, Cody Yamaguchi for the perfect photograph. The title track pays homage to Wai’ale and where I come from. I am so delighted to bring you home with me. The last and one of the only times I was honored enough to share the stage with Ioane Burns. Oh yeah Kuana Torres Kahele was there too. Awwwww Glenn Mayeda couldn’t make it so I invited myself to be a part of the fun.

Happy Aloha Motivational Monday! Seeing these two pictures of me side to side gives me the motivation and drive to continue to honor my dads request, you know you would look so good on stage if you loss some weight. Yes dad I’m doing the due and trying my best to look good on stage. Love you dad! If you’re looking for something or some reason to get better or win at, look within yourself or your family and friends for your reason WHY you need to or want to achieve that goal.... It doesn’t have to be a health goal, it could be anything, anything at all. See it! Dream it! Achieve it! Let’s get it, do it and win at something new today family. God bless! Big Mahalos to @melisskiss78 for the pic on the left and @mkhdabest for the pic on the right.
Happy belated heavenly birthday Uncle Willie K. I’m glad I caught part of this magic that happened at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua back in 2012. Uncle Willie was only supposed to play for like 20-25 mins, but what William Van Osdol did was unbelievable. Billy V started asking uncle Willie some questions, then it led us on a journey around the world. Uncle Willie ended up playing for an hour and everyone in the crowd was Williefied. One of those moments that I experienced in person that I will never forget. True magic! I was both Williefied and Billy-fied! Big Mahalos to Bruddah Wade Faildo for taking me on this trip

Aloha family and friends, I'm gonna go live today at around 4pm PDT (1pm HST) on my personal page John-David Pomaika'i Andre Puli. A slack key master, YKIYK! He doesn't call himself that, but I do! I mean if the shoe fits, must be Carey Camacho, if the shoes no fit, then wear slippahs.
Love you aunty Sylvia! Mother of the Sea, enjoy!
