IRS QuickAlert: 2014 Filing Season for Modernized e-File (MeF) Individual and Business Returns Start Dates Description In an IRS QuickAlert email notification on December 23rd, the IRS announced plans to open the 2014 filing season on January 13, 2014 for Business Tax Returns and January 31, 2014 for Individual Tax Returns. For additional information on the 2014 Filing Season for business returns and individual returns, please access the press releases at the following links... below. 2014 Tax Season to Open January 13 for Business Returns 2014 Tax Season to Open Jan. 31 for Individual Returns Impact of January 13th to Business Returns: When the IRS opens Business filing on January 13, 2014: Tax Year 2011 and 2012 electronic filing will resume for corporate, s corporate, partnership, and tax exempt filings. Returns submitted to the Intuit Electronic Filing Center between December 26th and the reopening on January 13th will be forwarded to the IRS for processing and acknowledgments for these returns will follow. Acknowledgments for all Tax Year 2011 and 2012 returns will remain available for your retrieval The IRS systems will be prepared to process electronically filed and paper filed of Tax Year 2013 business returns begining on this date. Note: The Intuit Electronic Filing Center will begin accepting electronically filed Tax Year 2013 business returns beginning on January 31, 2014. Impact of January 31st to Individual Income Tax Returns: When the IRS opens Individual filing on January 31, 2014: Tax Year 2013 individual income tax return electronic filing will open. Tax Year 2012 individual income tax electronic filing will resume for Lacerte, ProSeries, and Intuit Tax Online customers that have purchased Tax Year 2013 Lacerte, ProSeries, or Intuit Tax Online products. Federal and most state1 2012 individual returns may again be electronically filed. Acknowledgments for Tax Year 2012 individual returns that have remained outstanding during the IRS maintenance will become available. All Tax Year 2012 individual income tax acknowledgments will remain available for your retrieval. 1 Multi-year electronic filing support of individual income tax returns will not be supported by all state agencies. Alabama, District of Columbia, Delaware, Kentucky, Maine, and Rhode Island will not support multi-year individual electronic filing and tax year 2012 individual e-File has closed as of November 23rd, 2013. At this time, all other states are expected to reopen tax year 2012 individual electronic filing. State electronic filing is subject to change at any time based upon the availability provided by the tax agencies
