Happy Friday! When an individual stock is on its way to becoming one of the top 10 biggest stocks in the U.S. (think Google, Apple, etc), they become household names and investors will buy these newer stocks without taking company valuations into account. Eventually they become too expensive and struggle to keep up with the market after their initial meteoric rise. The chart below shows that big hot performing stocks significantly outperform the market on their way to the top 10 but once they are there, they are no longer a hot stock. Because it is impossible to consistently predict which company will have the next major upswing, it is important to stay diversified and be the benefactor of how these successful companies impact the overall market.
