A conversation worth listening to.
https://www.minndakjcrc.org//jcrc-mourns-death-of-daunte-/
We will double down and not be dissuaded from working to change the culture of othering in Los Gatos. Thank you Mayor Marico Sayoc.
If you missed our panel discussion Sports as a Microcosm of Society: Racism and Antisemitism you can catch it here. Even if you attended, there is deep learning here worth revisiting and sharing. Keep this conversation going.
So excited to share this conversation with these panelists!! We'll be bringing ya'all along to the change we need!
Thank you Henry Estreicher and Supervisor Wasserman, for continuing this important tradition of sharing the first hand experiences of our local Holocaust survivors.
Dear Friends, Today’s attack on the U.S. Capitol is reprehensible. It demands our community’s strongest support of every person working to restore order and to complete the task of affirming the results of the November 3 presidential election and achieve a peaceful transition of presidential power. We call on our leaders, including legislators and the President, to refrain from and condemn all inflammatory rhetoric, violence and acts of insurrection. As Jews, we are deeply f...amiliar with and disturbed by the scenes of violent mobs that wreak lawlessness and threaten society. Many of our parents and grandparents fled undemocratic regimes. Our unprecedented safety and thriving in America is based on solid democratic norms. We stand together with other minority communities across the country, and all Americans who similarly rest their freedom on the instruments of American democracy, including free and fair elections, and the peaceful transition of power. We must hold our elected officials responsible for protecting our democracy and upholding the Constitution. As American Jews, we commit to strengthening our nation’s democracy and addressing hate and undemocratic sentiments we witness in our own local community. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance. L'Shalom, Diane Fisher Director Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley
The process of healing our country will take a lot of work. We begin with calling on our Congressional leadership to address the rising threats of domestic terrorism and online disinformation. And more.
Progress with vaccinations. We have 3 COVID Ambassadors at JCRC who will share critical information.
ADL has a deep and thoughtful record of fighting against hate in any form. I truly hope this moment leads to a deeper respect for the work we all stand on.
January 15 is Martin Luther King's actual birthday. On this occasion we continue to learn from him, and apply his teaching right here in Santa Clara County.
The Rotunda and City Hall Building lit up blue and white for Chanukah!! All are included in this season of lighting up the darkness. Thanks to Zulma Maciel and friends in city government.
A valuable reflection on different choices Jews make, and whether we judge them.
An opportunity to lift up Sephardic Jewish culture!
Our community is joining together to support our democracy.
Archbishop Mitty High School and Silicon Valley Interreligious Council hosted this inspiring Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on the theme of gratitude. Thanks Rabbi Laurie Matzkin for offering some beautiful teachings from Judaism. Blessing #1 for today-- wonderful teachers and colleagues of diverse faiths!! Dolat Bolandi, MA, MFT
We have reached out to the Azerbaijan Cultural Society of Northern California to express our condemnation of the hateful graffiti scrawled on their building. APJCC in Los Gatos and Azerbaijan Cultural Society - ACSNC are neighboring community centers in Los Gatos, and we join together in fighting against any expression of hate.
Who will join in spreading this message-- be patient while EVERY VOTE is COUNTED!
We will wait. Every vote counts.
Etgar Keret: Israeli Author speaking with @Tricia Creason-Valencia spoke a great idea: literature is a place we can develop empathy because the fantasy space is not threatening like often real life is, so we can open our hearts.
If you believe in continually strengthening our community and our relationships with others, this is a benefit you will want to join. JCPA is the national heart of community relations for the Jewish community. See you there.
Every vote must be counted!
The Jewish Community Relations Council joins with our partner agencies across the country in congratulating President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory in the 2020 presidential election. We also mourn the passing of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. We remember his profound words, particularly regarding our human capacity for hope, to envision a better future, and to exercise the freedom to work toward that future. It is in the spirit of Rabbi Sack...s that we will continue to call on our Jewish community to sustain engagement in the democratic processes that ensure our voices are heard and our concerns are represented. We look forward to working with elected officials at all levels of government, and applying the wisdom of our tradition to help heal divisions and promote policies that support the most vulnerable among us. The election of Kamala Harris as the first woman and the first Black and Indian American to hold that office is a historic step forward in building the just society we strive to create. We pray that the 46th president will provide the listening, compassion and hard work needed to address the pandemic, build economic opportunities, combat antisemitism, promote anti-racist policies, fight climate change, along with all the essential work that lies ahead for our country. 13:00 JCRC Chair Alexa Kaskowitz added our Jewish community voice to the rally for democracy in San Jose, joining the call to Count All Votes!
Shared remarks (@ 13:13) on behalf of the Jewish community this morning at City Hall, as a kickoff to a day of peaceful gathering promoting democracy and counting all the votes. Prayer vigil at 5pm, Rally at 6pm tonight. Alexa Kaskowitz
JCRC works proactively to lift up pluralism and democracy, and when needed we make sure our communal voices loudly condemn hate in any form it rears its ugly head. The work is grass-roots, everyone in the community carries the responsibility. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency, among other Jewish publications, today published background on the hate group Proud Boys, which has endorsed violence and espoused anti-Semitic views. Time to speak out. https://www.jta.org//are-the-proud-boys-anti-semitic-your-

"Further, our congregations and Jewish institutions must instantly speak out against acts of racism whenever they occur and follow up with action. We must prove that our prayers are not just poetic gestures; they are the centuries-old sacred fuel empowering us to stand firm in the face of the Pharaohs of our day."
