Mix & Mingle: 6:00pm - 6:30pm ... Guest Speaker, Denise Redmond of Carousel Ranch: 6:30pm - 7:00pm Chat n Chill: 7:00pm -8:00pm About Denise Redmond: As Co-Founder and Executive Director of Carousel Ranch, Denise Redmond has been able to spend her career combining passion with profession. After graduating from Cal State University, Northridge with a degree in Journalism and Public Relations, Denise spent many years in the non-profit sector working under the Executive Director at another equestrian therapy program and then as a Development Director as a private day school. In 1997, she and Becky Graham founded Carousel Ranch, beginning with a small idea, one student and one horse, in Becky’s backyard. 22 years later, that simple concept has grown into more than was ever imagined, serving over 100 individuals with special needs each week. At Carousel Ranch, Denise focuses on not only day to day management and operations and program development but spends a great deal of time working on fundraising, grants, relationship building and organizational sustainability/planning. Over the past four years, these efforts have not only increased programming substantially, but created diversified income streams and increased the organization’s revenue by 100%. It is truly the passion for these incredible children and young adults that has brought so much purpose to Denise’s long career in the non-profit sector. In this episode, Koren and Daniela from JCI Santa Clarita speak with Staci Daniels-Sommers, a licensed clinical social worker, educator, and consultant. She began facilitating intergroup dialogue over fifteen years ago as a college student and has continued educating others on diversity, inclusion, and ways to connect across difference in school, community, and nonprofit settings. Staci holds a BA in Psychology and Political Science and a master's degree in Social Work, both ...from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. She is currently a psychotherapist providing culturally responsive support to clients across California. Staci will be facilitating a training for JCI Santa Clarita tomorrow night at 6pm PST on Zoom called "Connecting Across Difference." As citizens of a diverse community, we are often tasked with connecting with people who have similar and dissimilar experiences from our own. Leadership requires us to work across differences, which means we must both honor difference and find common ground. In this workshop, participants will: - have the opportunity to reflect on and share their unique experiences; - learn how to actively listen to others; -learn and practice techniques that support authentic communication across difference; -reflect on ways we can encourage inclusivity in the Santa Clarita Valley. To learn more about Staci's new diversity dialogue program for Santa Clarita Valley residents, visit: https://scvradicalcivility.com.
