We took for granted that speech sounds were "sounds". But the truth is that speech sounds are coded expressions,which means we have to learn them, even accents. So if speech understanding is a difficulty, the ears cannot do much about it since the processing of such "sounds" takes place within the temporal lobes of our brains. The ears are just post offices maintaining the transmission sequences. Damage in our inner ears causes difficulties in maintaining the fidelity of transmissions.

I have also developed a procedure that will help locate site of lesion that would bring attention to the problem and which can be followed up with MRI/Spect scans.
