In 2006 Tim Asamen interviewed retired jockey George Taniguchi, an Imperial Valley native. The article that resulted was printed in the Imperial County Historical Society's newsletter but was too long for the newsletter of the Japanese American Gallery. Thanks to the Japanese American National Museum, the two-part article is now available on the Discover Nikkei website. Thank you all for another great season. We are now closed until the Labor Day holiday. If you just can’t wait that long to see the museum again, joining us as a volunteer might be right for you

This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the opening of the Japanese American Gallery. There is a plaque on the front of the Gallery that bears the names of all of the members of our inaugural committee. On this Memorial Day weekend, let us remember those members who are no longer with us: Mary Hoshizaki, George & Kathy Kakiuchi, Mineo & Jaime Kobayashi, Yoshiko Kodama, Hatsuo & Shizue Morita, Takanori Nimura, Yoshiya & Mary Sanbonmatsu, Gene Shimamoto, and Yoshio Uyechi. They worked tirelessly and gave generously so that the Japanese American Gallery would become a reality.
