In the spirit of important collaboration, we are again working hand-in-hand with our friends at SaveABunny in Mill Valley to help provide a better life for 28 helpless bunnies who were confiscated from an awful breeding facility and transfered to a Central Valley animal shelter after authorities went in to remove them due to poor living conditions. Under California law, rabbit care is defined as "presence of food and water." In other words, the bar is set so low that neglect ...and living conditions have to be really horrific for confiscation by the authorities to occur. While the full details of the confiscation have not been made public, it is believed that the rabbits were being bred for slaughter. Most people don't know that "meat" rabbits are the exact same breed of bunnies as pet rabbits. Rabbits are as intelligent, sensitive and opinionated as cats and dogs. They can use a litter box just like a cat and be clicker trained like a dog. We are grateful the bunnies were found when they were; they are now free from a devastating fate. Thank you SaveABunny! We are honored, in partnership with SaveABunny, to provide foster care and lots of TLC for the bunnies as they heal from their severe maltreatment; once healthier, they will be spayed and neutered to prevent unwanted litters. They will then be placed up for adoption to indoor-only homes, which SaveABunny will be coordinating. For more information on rabbit care, fostering or adopting contact our partner, SaveABunny or by visiting their website, www.saveabunny.org

Jameson is so grateful to all of our volunteers, especially those who go that extra mile to keep the animals in our community and beyond fed. Case in point: Chloe and Jason Faris celebrated Chloe’s birthday with a Covid safe drive-by donation event at their home. They invited all their friends and coworkers to donate something for Jameson’s Community Pet Pantry in order to help those in need keep their animals from going hungry. Chloe’s decision to ask for gifts for Jameson’s... Community Pet Pantry instead of for herself is a selfless act that epitomizes the Jameson way insofar as fostering harmony between humans, animals, and the planet to create a kinder, more compassionate world. As a result of this act of generosity, the donations included 3 pet beds, a dozen toys, 2 carriers, 8 bags of pet food, 1/2 a dozen leashes and collars, and cash donations. We applaud you both Chloe and Jason!! Happy birthday and Thank You from us and all the animals for your compassion to keep animals fed and with their families, where they belong. What a beautiful gesture.

Last month, we shared the story of Petunia’s four little surprise piglets (Paco, Dahlia, Cowlick, and Norm), but now we would like to tell you how Petunia came to Jameson in the first place, along with her sisters: Poppy and Tulip. Nicholas Enders, Nicky, a young man at the ripe age of 13, was helping teach a ranch class and noticed one of the sows at that ranch had given birth to piglets. Nicky and his mother, Jill, learned the piglets were all destined for the slaughterhou...se, so they spent $500 to buy them and save their lives. Three of the boys (Victor, Gilbert and Nicholas) were brought to live together at Charlie's Acres; whereas two of the girls, Poppy and Tulip, came to live with us at Jameson Humane. Their other sister, Petunia, however found herself in a less-than-ideal new home, until Jill and Nicky once again stepped in and asked if she could join us at Jameson. When Petunia, Poppy, and Tulip were reintroduced last March, they instantly recognized each other and were overjoyed to be together again! Thank you again Nicky and Jill for saving the lives of our sweet little (not so little anymore!) pigs. Thanks to you both, these girls will live out a carefree, long, and happy life together! If you ever have concerns about an animal’s well-being, and would like some guidance on how to address it, please do not hesitate to call us at (707)927-3536. We are here 24/7 to answer your questions, help educate, and guide you towards finding the best resources whenever possible.

If Wilbur had to be compared to a dog breed, he would be a young Labrador. If he were to be described in a few words, it would be food crazed, goofy, mischievous, a people pleaser, and of course incredibly intelligent. In fact, Wilbur already knows several commands and continues to learn more as the days go by. As a pig with many hobbies and past times, one of Wilbur’s favorite things to do is remodel his home. We suggest where the straw should go, but with Wilbur’s eye for i...nterior design, he places the straw where it works best for him and his exquisite taste. You can’t argue with an artist! Aside from redecorating daily, Wilbur enjoys playing with hoses (if you aren't paying attention while filling his water, he will steal the hose and pull it into his bed!). Wilbur even has a special "rain" dance when you spray the hose over him! Also, in the winter he likes to bob for ice in his water bucket, and in the summer he likes to sit in it! He also enjoys doing zoomies when he thinks no one is looking (don’t we all?). As part of our evening care ritual, Wilbur will roll over and ask politely for his nightly belly scratches, sometimes falling asleep mid-rub! Wilbur is so full of character and not only does he knows it, he will 100% use this to his advantage and steal your heart. Did you know that it costs $5,000 per month to care for and feed the Jameson pigs? Would you make this smart boy extra happy by sponsoring him at any level? If so, check out our Animalship program at Jamesonhumane.org/animalship.

Nancy is 11 years young and 50 lbs of love! She is looking for a home where she can be the only animal, but would be happy to live in a family that has kids 10+. Snuggling, sunbathing, and playtime are three of Nancy’s favorite activities, but she also loves to go for walks while on a leash. If you live in a quiet neighborhood (without many dogs around), you would be a perfect fit for our girl! Nancy is on hypothyroid medication twice a day, but she takes it easily in a Pill Pocket and is extremely healthy otherwise. For more information on Nancy, please contact our Companion Animals Manager, Melissa at [email protected]!
