While DMV may show no appointments available (currently-this can change due to COVID), teens trying to get their permits need to do is complete their online education, make an account on the DMV website (new drivers license or Real ID), fill out application, upload as many of the required documents as you can and go to a local DMV and take permit test. As everyone is probably aware, DMV has opened up new appointments for license test. That being said, since we were shut down for 3 months due to SIP we are currently booked out until the end of August trying to catch up with students that had their DMV license test appointments cancelled during SIP and received new appointments. For students who are now eligible to take their license test, please call the office (we will call back as soon as we can, we are getting over 50 p...lus calls a day and out with students during the day) to schedule remaining appointments so you can book the license test accordingly. Update as of today. If any students have expired permits and an appointment at DMV to take license test, please arrive to DMV early and have all documents required for the original permit. You have to reapply for permit and I am told do not have to take permit test. YES, reapply. Sorry.

We have been given the green light to start back up slowly June 17th. We are currently calling cancelled first lessons starting in March to reschedule. We will require students to wash their hands before and after lessons, wear their mask as well as the instructors. We will wipe down vehicles in between lessons and take students temperatures to ensure no one has a fever. We also have new moveable plastic barriers for protection but still allows us to manage the vehicle as... required. Our thoughts are to prioritize first (to validate permits) and second lessons, then we will work on third lessons and we are saving appointments for last lessons should someone get a call from DMV for their test we have availability. I was told by DMV yesterday, if you had an appointment that had to be cancelled please answer any restricted/unknown calls as that might be DMV calling to reschedule starting with March and these students will have priority. If you did not have an appointment, call weekly starting next week to see if they are allowing appointments for students without appointments. I just got off the phone with DMV. He said that due to social distancing all behind the wheel test have been cancelled but still show on the system so they can contact you to reschedule. They are currently rescheduling limited appointments and he said he believes they will start rescheduling behind the wheel tests mid-end of June starting with March. I am getting calls that Truckee is doing walk in behind the wheels tests so I asked him and he said that is false because t...hey are not allowed to do the behind the wheel test due to social distancing and it may have been the case before Covid but no longer. Appointments will be required. He suggested for students that did not have appointments to keep checking the website (again mid-end of June) and once they start booking to call but students that had test that need to reschedule will have priority. Reminder, they are doing permit test but you must have an account at the DMV website, fill out application and download all the required documents and go to Concord DMV and the student can walk in and take the permit test. I have been told by two parents that their friends are getting calls from DMV to reschedule behind the wheel test appointments in August, please tell your teen (should they get the call) to accept the call and accept the appointment and then maybe you can change after.

Unfortunately we received a call yesterday from the CCC DA’s office (He was very nice and helpful) stating all driving schools are deemed nonessential and we can not do lessons. He stated he is calling all driving schools in our county to inform them as well. We submitted paperwork showing us as essential and hopefully we will have an update in the next few days. Quick DMV Update: I understand this is so frustrating and the only suggestion I have is to call DMV weekly. Once they start scheduling, DMV will be extremely busy. I was told they were going to start making appointments 5/28-5/29. I am now told to call to make appointments 6/15-6/16, but that could also change. I am calling DMV weekly and will update Facebook accordingly. DMV is currently doing permit tests, you have to sign up on the DMV (.gov) website, fill out the a...pplication and download all required documents and go to a DMV location (hearing Concord DMV has been fantastic) that is currently open for limited appointments. As for behind the wheel license tests, I was told all behind the wheel tests have been cancelled but they do not provide a date as to how far out. I suggest calling and confirming the appointment. We will do whatever is needed to get the lessons in should a test take place. Once you get a confirmation of new behind the wheel license test, please call the office to schedule lessons accordingly.
