JVCC had a great time seeing Addie May for a recheck on Friday. She is a bundle of happy energy. We are thrilled that she has had no progression of her cardiac disease in the last 6 months. Way to go! #jacksonvetcardiology

Did you know coughing could be a sign of heart disease? Benji's owner noticed that he was coughing a lot and breathing harder. His primary care veterinarian took chest X-rays and noticed that his heart was enlarged, and recommended an evaluation with JVCC. An echocardiogram showed that Benji had a valve leak leading to an enlarged heart causing the coughing and rapid breathing. Now, after a few weeks of medication, Benji's cough is improved and he is breathing more comfortably. This handsome man is doing great at home :) Keep up the good work Benji! #jacksonvetcardiology

Rocky Balboa was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure, but he did a good job of hiding his symptoms from his owners in the beginning. In Rocky, like many cats, some of the first signs of heart disease were quite subtle, just a decreased appetite, being more tired, and hiding more. Overtime, if heart disease is present trouble breathing is often noted. Rocky Balboa has been doing well at home on medications and his breathing is back to normal. Great job Rocky! #jacksonvetcardiology

Dott is a sweet 5 month old Sphinx kitten that had a heart murmur heard during her kitten check-ups. Abnormal motion of the mitral valve was noted during an ultrasound of her heart, causing an obstruction to blood flow inside her heart. We are happy to report that at her recheck the heart murmur and obstruction resolved completely after starting medication. Way to go Dott! #jacksonvetcardiology

This adorable face belongs to Taffy. Taffy was evaluated because his primary care veterinarian heard a gallop rhythm. A gallop is an extra third heart sound that is not typically heard and can indicate the presence of heart disease. An echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) was performed, and luckily only mild changes were noted. Yearly or twice yearly check-ups with your primary veterinarian are important to help catch changes early so they can be monitored and complications can be prevented! #jacksonvetcardiology
