Day10- Color:Purple/Violet The mora is a fruit that is often used in natural dyes throughout Central America. The fruit is deeply purple in color and produces gorgeous hues that go from deep magenta to lilacs. A lot of the colors in the huipiles of Chichicastenango are a great example of this color tone.

A brief reintroduction to new followers, my name is Andrea Sofia Santizo and I started Ix’iq Designs (eesh-eek Designs) last year in response to some major life changes that pushed me to undertake an idea I had been sitting on for quite some time. I wanted to bring visibility to Central American culture and it’s richness through my art work, this jewelry practice makes my work accesible and simultaneously highlights Guatemala specifically along with Mayan mythology, archeolog...ical/geographic sites, food, and practices. So happy to announce a collaboration with The Fowler Museum At UCLA! They will be carrying an Ix’iq Designs capsule collection in conjunction with the amazing exhibition featuring 80 Guatemalan masks that depict folklore, animals, and historical figures that are featured in ceremonial dances and masquerades during indigenous festivals.
