A view from #ClearGuide of #HurricaneIsaias passing over North Carolina from midnight until 6am this morning. As well as extreme weather events, other weather layers such as precipitation and wind speed can be animated and exported from ClearGuide for easy sharing. Learn more about how ClearGuide's animation favorites feature can help agencies save time analyzing historical anomalies to make informed decisions when managing congestion along their roadway network: https://www.iteris.com//iteris-adds-animation-favorites-cl
Transportation enthusiast Rob Sanders, better known in the YouTube community as Road Guy Rob, has released a catalog of fun and informative videos answering such questions as "How do Interstate highways happen?", "Why are toll booths going away?" and "How do engineers make bridges earthquake safe?". In his latest video as part of his Ask the Experts series, Rob caught up with Iteris' Brian Girardot and Caltrans' Mohammed Bendelhoum to learn more about the history and benefits of video detection vs. induction loop detection. With bicycle sales and ridership skyrocketing, cities are having to reimagine the ways they account for and cater to cyclists at intersections. Built on Iteris’ SmartCycle algorithm, which differentiates between bicycles and vehicles at intersections, the SmartCycle Bike Indicator is a device that mounts onto traffic signals, illuminates when cyclists waiting at an intersection have been detected and removes the need to touch a push button. For more information on the SmartCycle Bike Indicator visit here or contact your local distributor or representative: iteris.com/beseen
In these unprecedented times, as we all take precautions to keep ourselves, our families and our communities safe from harm, we are indebted to the transportation and logistics workers who keep our nation’s critical infrastructure operational, even at risk to themselves. To all the truck drivers, traffic signal technicians, delivery and public transit workers, traffic management center operators, dispatchers, repair and maintenance workers, truck stop and rest area staff, and any other essential workers who are dedicated to keeping people and goods moving safely and efficiently as the nation comes together to slow the spread of COVID-19: we salute you and we appreciate you. Thank you.
National Ag Day, which falls on March 24th every year, is always the perfect opportunity to thank American farmers for all they provide for us. But with the unprecedented and uncertain times our nation is currently facing, we are especially grateful for the dedication of the farmers, growers, food service and food manufacturer employees, as well as all other essential food and agriculture sector workers, who are sacrificing so much to ensure that our critical infrastructure is maintained, while keeping supply chains full and people nourished. Thank you for all that you do. #AgDay20
Whereas previously, the Bentonville, Arkansas traffic management team would have to physically drive out to an intersection to respond to citizen complaints about a faulty traffic signal or poor signal timing, the city recently implemented a new system to count traffic data for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians, and gain a better understanding of traffic patterns. Since installing VantageLive! in June 2019 for traffic data collection, The City of Bentonville, Arkansas Government leverages real-time traffic data to adjust signal timing as needed at the city's Traffic Monitoring Control Center. By using VantageLive! with video detection, #Bentonville replaced a four-week data collection process with automated counting, and can now provide accurate traffic counts within a matter of minutes.
Over the past 20 years, The City of Bentonville, Arkansas Government has transformed itself from a relatively unassuming Arkansas town to a bustling center of commerce and culture, and the fastest-growing city in the state. Bentonville, Arkansas recently removed its last in-ground loop and is now proud to have 100% video detection at all signalized intersections. And having installed VantageLive! last year for traffic data collection, the city leverages real-time traffic data to adjust signal timing as needed at Bentonville's Traffic Monitoring Control Center. With video detection and access to real-time traffic data, Bentonville's traffic management team is making the city's roadways safer and more efficient.
Cyclists know the risks that face them every time they ride. And while safety measures like active lights, visibility clothing and helmets are crucial, cities can and should be implementing life-saving technologies at an intersection level to proactively protect cyclists (and pedestrians) from the dangers of the road. 18 years on, we honor and remember the victims, survivors and first responders of September 11, 2001. #NeverForget #September11
In Florida, cyclists and pedestrians are dying at an alarming rate, with the country's highest and fifth-highest fatality rates respectively. In her column for the Orlando Sentinel, Iteris data leader Anita Vandervalk explains how traffic data is the key to curing this epidemic.
Are recent extreme weather events making weather harder to predict? In his recent column, Brent Shaw separates the fact from fiction and explains why the agricultural community should invest in applying predictive weather information to soil and crop data. https://bit.ly/2BBM212
