How the chapters in the story of our lives unfold is based on choices. Our education & career choices are determined by: - Our influencers. They could be parents, teachers, relatives, role models, mentors, movie stars, athletes and (based on where we grow up) drug dealers or gang leaders. These influencers determine the education & career options we see & choose.... - Our options. Children of parents who are knowledgeable about the 21st Century world of work see different options than children of uneducated or uninvolved parents. Our goal is to help educators be influencers who provide thoughtful options to ALL students. The outcome is students design their life with education & career options beyond what they see every day. We do this with our Award-Winning Professional Development Program on the STE@M Mentoring Program. FIVE Reasons to Book STE@M Mentoring Professional Development Trainings by March 31 1. Immediate & Impactful Student outcomes 2. Head start for High School - Implement Program in your classrooms before Summer 3. Motivated 8th graders excited for success in High School 4. Rave Reviews from Educators 5. 10 FREE Playbooks If your school’s goal is for ALL students to have the opportunity for positive, life enhancing choices in education, let’s talk about scheduling a PD Training at your district (or County) before March 31.

To warm your heart on Valentine’s Day! When a story makes me smile, I can’t resist sharing with friends. As we celebrate with chocolates and flowers, the girl in the story below is opening her heart & making a generous impact in her community. Thank you to Anjelica Valencia, the Freeman Elementary ASES Site Coordinator for sending me this lovely story. I met Anjelica last summer when she attended a Professional Development Training to bring the STE@M Mentoring Program to he...r students. Well done, Anjelica! The Freeman 5th & 6th grade girls worked on a science experiment as part of the ASES STE@M Mentoring Program. It entailed working with plastic ornaments, crayons, a cheese grater, and a hair blow dryer. The activity directed students to grate crayons creating crayon shavings, then pouring the shavings into the plastic ornament, and blow-drying the exterior of the ornament in a circular motion thus creating a beautiful combination of colors and designs inside the ornament. This activity touched on both Science and Art, which are two STEAM components. One of our fifth-grade students, Jurnee Brewer, loved the experiment and was excited she had the opportunity to design two different ornaments in one day. Later that day, Jurnee showed her Mom the amazing work of art she had created during the ASES STE@M Mentoring Program. The following day, I received a picture from Mrs. Brewer informing me that Jurnee had decided to start her own business. This new business would consist of Jurnee reaching out to family members, friends, and neighbors, personally and via social media, and promoting her product, taking orders, and donating all profits to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. In less than one month, Jurnee donated $300 and received a shirt from St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as a token of their appreciation for her generous donation. Jurnee continues to take orders allowing her customers to choose one to two colors per ornament and offers three different sizes of ornaments with prices ranging from three to eight dollars. The Freeman ASES program is very proud of Jurnee Brewer’s talents and her generous contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Congratulations to Jurnee! I believe this young girl has the initiative, the heart & follow through to be a future STE@M Super Star! Wishing you a Valentine’s Day filled with delightful surprises, Cari --- Our goal is to help students design their life with education & career options beyond what they see every day. Most of these students fail because they don’t have a clear career path or understand how they can translate their education into a career. According to Bill Gates, of 2 Million American students who start college, less than 55% will get a degree. As STEAM advocates we have a problem to solve. We all know that STEAM careers are the need of the future and those entering a STEAM workforce will enjoy higher than average wages. ... We can make a difference in the lives of these students. One key to increase student completion rate is to educate our future college students about STEAM as early as possible to give them the motivation, tools, knowledge and direction they need to succeed in school & upon entering the workforce. There are two ways you can be involved to support this effort - Get Involved - https://bit.ly/2GumEgH
