Now what things can you do to boost your immune system. email from my friendly Chiropractor Petrice At Cambridge chiropractor 1. Get adjusted regularly. Our... nervous system controls our immune system and the more ease each of those systems experiences, the better your whole body works. 2. Optimize your vitamin D levels. We do not start making vitamin D from the sun until April. Get your levels checked and supplement with a quality D3 supplement to bring your levels up. 3. Hydrate. Drink lots of water. We should be drinking 1/2 of our body weight inn ounces of water each day. Caffeinated and alcoholic beverages do not count. Our bodies are made of 70% water. Our mucus membranes are our first line of defense to any inhaled pathogens. Being dehydrated weakens this first line of defense. So drink more water. 4. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with regualr soap and warm water. Sing the ABCs once or Happy Birthday twice to reach the 20 second mark. 5. Increase your vitamin C intake. There are so many fruits and veggies rich in vitamin C. Spinach, Kale, oranges, broccoli, brussel sprouts, lemons, persimmons, strawberries. Taking a quality supplement helps. Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin which means if you take too much, your body will flush out the excess (this usually comes in the form of diarrhea). Most people can easily take 5000mg per day with no side effects. I have frequently taken 20,000-25,000 mg per day when I have had any cold symptoms and it knocks those cold symptoms out fast. If you do end up with some diarrhea (sorry but it happens), just back off how much vitamin C you are takiing or do not take any the following day. The diarrhea subsides fairly quickly at that point. 6. Decrease your sugar consumption. Sugar is known to suppress your immune system. I Snickers bar can lower your immune response by 75%. Beware of all the hidden sugar in salad dressings, soups, breads, sauces. Read your labels. Sugar, high fructose corn syrup, fructose are all forms of sugar. Artificial sweeteners also suppress your immune system. 7. Decrease your stress levels. For some of you, simply turning off the news can do wonders. This is a good time to watch comedies on TV. Getting out in nature is a great stress reliever. Spend an hour or two outdoors. Hug a tree. Get barefoot in the grass or on the sand. Breathe deeply especially some outdoor air. It is amazing what a few deep breaths can do to lower our stress levels. 8.
