The Eye of the Storm: Be still in the midst of Chaos https://www.douinter.com/blog/210096/the-eye What is the eye of the storm?... The eye of the storm is a region of mostly calm weather found at the center of strong tropical cyclones A typical tropical cyclone will have an eye of approximately 3065 km (2040 mi) across, usually situated at the geometric center of the storm. The eye may be clear or have spotty low clouds (a clear eye), it may be filled with low- and mid-level clouds(a filled eye), or it may be obscured by the central dense overcast. There is, however, very little wind and rain, especially near the center. This is in stark contrast to conditions in the eyewall, which contains the storm's strongest winds. What are the storms in our life? Conflicts with your working colleagues in company over unsettled ideas for marketing. Quarrels with your children trying to convince them not to play VDO game too much. Anger over the bad driver on the road on Monday morning rush hour. How can we overcome these storms in our life even big or small? Be still in the midst of chaos There is a space between the stimuli and response. Dr. Stephen R. Covey said from his book, The 8th Habit. One of the most profound and truly life changing experiences of my lifeone conceptually fundamental to my work on the 7 Habitstook place while I was a sabbatical in Hawaii. One day I was wandering leisurely around the stacks in a library. Being in a very meditative and reflective state of mind, I pulled down a book. In it I read three sentences that staggered me to the core: Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response. In those choices lie our growth and our happiness. STIMULUS AND RESPONSE You must find the space between the stimuli and response. In that space you will find a freedom to react the way you will feel good afterward. We can call that space The eye of the storm When the storm of life comes, be still in the eye of the storm. Do not move out from your center. The more you can maintain stillness in the eye of the storm, the less you will be affected by the storm. On the other hand, the more you move out from your center during the storm, the more you will be affected by the storm. So, let’s meditate everyday to train yourself to be more skillful on how to be still in the midst of chaos. stay calm in the eye of the storm. So when the storm of life comes again even the big ones or small ones, you will be safe and can rise up again to see the sunshine when the storm is over. A Meditative Life of an Asian Tiger: Lee Kuan Yew https://www.douinter.com/blog/210082/meditative-lee-kuan-yew Who is Lee Kuan Yew?... Lee Kuan Yew is a Singaporean statesman. He was the first Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, governing for three decades. By the time he stepped down, he had become the world's longest-serving Prime Minister. Lee Kuan Yew was interviewed by Seth Mydans of New York Times on September 1, 2010. He talked about the aches and pains of age and the solace of meditation. Seth: My mother used to say never get old. Well, you try never to think yourself old. Lee: I keep fit, I swim, I cycle. Seth: And yoga, is that right? Meditation? Lee: Yes Seth: Tell me about Meditation Lee: Well, I started it about two, three years ago when Ng Kok Song, the Chief Investment Officer of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation I knew he was doing meditation. His wife had died but he was completely serene. So, I said how do you achieve this? He said I meditate everyday so did my wife and when she was dying of cancer, she was totally serene because she meditated everyday. Lee: Well I said to him, you teach me. He is a devout Christian. He was taught by a man called Laurence Freeman, a Catholic. When I was in London, Ng Kok Song introduced me to Laurence Freeman. In fact, he is coming to Singapore, and we will do a meditation session. Lee: The problem is to keep the monkey mind from running off into all kinds of thoughts. It is most difficult to stay focused on mantra. The discipline is to have mantra which you keep repeating in your innermost heart, no need to voice it over again and again, throughout the whole meditation period. Lee: The mantra they recommended was a religious one. Ma-Ra-Na-Ta, four syllables. Come to Me Oh Lord Jesus. So I said okay, I am not a Catholic but I will try. He said you can take another mantra, for Buddhist,Om-Mi-To-Fo and keep repeating it. To me Ma-Ra-Na-Ta is more soothing. So I used it. Lee: My wife, Kwa Geok Choo, has been bedridden for two years, unable to speak after a series of strokes. At night, hearing the sounds of my wife’s discomfort in the next room, I calms himself with 20 minutes of meditation. Giving is great https://www.douinter.com/blog/210087/giving-is-great Good Deed is like a gasoline in your tank. If you make a good wish or set up GPS with a gasoline in your tank, then it will be possible to complete your wish or to arrive at your destination... But if you make a wish without the gasoline in your tank, it will take a very long time to see it happen or it might never come. Because.. Good deed is a power What are the most important basic good deeds we should do every day? What are the most basic good things everyone wants to gain in life? Good Wealth, Good Health and Good Wisdom. No one will ever want it less. Will it be great if there will be 3 basic good deeds which we could do every day to attract Good Wealth, Good Health and Good Wisdom to our life? According to the Ancient Master, he talked about 3 basic good deeds that could work like a magnet to attract Good Wealth, Good Health and Good Wisdomto our life. Three Basic Good Deeds by the Ancient Master Giving Morality Meditation Giving is the inner magnet of good wealth The more you give and support people, the more positive energy of giving will be stored in your mind. And it will attract good people and good situation to support you to gain more and more good wealth. The one who give will be given even you do not want to..it is just a law of good deed. The Giving Story of Warren Buffet There are 4 kinds of giving 1) Giving of material support 2) Giving of working knowledge 3) Giving of spiritual knowledge 4) Giving of forgiveness There is also a bigger meaning for giving which for many, it is more important than just a gain of material wealth. The Spiritual Wealth of Giving. It is called Happiness of a Giver As a giver, you will feel so good to see many lives change for a better with your giving. This is a kind of happiness the money can not buy. No matter how rich you are, you will never experience this kind of happiness if you never give. Giving is great So, Let’s do a first basic good deed by Giving everyday so that you can gain more material and spiritual wealth. Live a happier and more meaningful life each day. Giving is great.
