An easy way to see if your tube is generating x-rays is to open a cassette on a table, adjust the collimator filament, stand where you can see the screen, and make an exposure of 20 mAs and 80 kV. If the screen lights up, your x-ray machine is working.

Protective devices in X-ray rooms should be checked annually for defects, such as holes, cracks, or tears. This check can be done by visually inspecting or feeling the protective devices.
