Smiling through my mask today. . . My patient shared that she was on a Zoom coffee chat with friends and they were discussing the possibility of job loss. .... . For her, instant flush of panic, shortness of breath, body tightening up. . . Then she remembered to slow her breath, starting imagined alternate nostril breath. Immediate sense of relief. And a deep knowing that everything is temporary. . . We chatted about the fact that she wouldn't have known to use that if she hadn't been practicing it daily. And she likely had such a quick response because her nervous system was primed for it. . . This stuff works even without practice, but gosh it makes it so much easier when you do.
