Happy Mardi Gras!! We, as a family, make and eat homemade doughnuts on Marti Gras. Do you have any Marti Gras traditions? Let us know in the comments. We want to share the doughnut receipt we use with you. ... Ingredients 2eggs 1 cup sugar 2tablespoons shortening cup milk 3 to 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour 4teaspoons baking powder teaspoon salt teaspoon nutmeg teaspoon cinnamon Directions Beat eggs well Add sugar gradually, then shortening and beat well. Add Milk Stir in sifted dry ingredients Roll out dough inch thick on a floured board Cut with a floured doughnut cutter and fry in oil at 375F until browned, drain on a paper towel. Yields about 2 Dozen The pan should be about of the way for on oil. Make sure you gradually bring the oil to 375F before put in the doughnut. Continue to check the temperature of the oil. If it gets too hot, it smokes or scorches the food without cooking it through, and if it gets too cool, the food will be become soaked in oil. Cook time for each doughnut is 2-3 minutes and should be flipped halfway through.
