D R A M AT I C F L A I R Often overlooked as a utilitarian space, a bathroom or bath suite can be so much more. These private spaces can be just as expressive as other areas in your home. In this bath, Riobel fixtures add the finishing touch to the free-standing tub, while lighting and rich fall colors give the room a dramatic look. But contrasting light and dark elements are not just for the bath. Other rooms of the home can benefit from a splash of colorful paint and natural elements, like wood floors and accents, as shown in the living room on the following page. Let your creativity flow and turn every room in your home into a comforting space that reflects your personal style.

DESERT ESCAPE J O S H U A T R E E N AT I O N A L PA R K I S A H AV E N F O R T H O S E S E E K I N G P E A C E A N D SOLITUDE.... With 800,000 acres to explore, Joshua Tree National Park offers respite from a noisy world. Established in 1936 and expanded in 1994 as part of the Desert Protection Bill, Joshua Tree is a transition area between the Colorado and Mojave Deserts and ranges in elevation from 536 feet to 5,814 feet. It is home to more than 800 higher plant species, 57 mammal species, and more than 250 types of birds. In addition, the park protects more than 700 archaeological sites, 88 historic structures, and 19 cultural landscapes. But mostly, Joshua Tree is a unique destination that is largely untouched by humans. In fact, if you visit, be prepared. Cell phone reception is spotty or unavailable in many areas of the park. Water sources are limited and the terrain is rugged. Wear sturdy shoes, watch where you step, and leave the wildlife alone. While summer brings scorching temperatures, fall is more pleasant, but nights can get chilly, so dress accordingly. Entrance fee to the park is $30 for a 7-day vehicle permit, admitting the passengers of a single, non-commercial vehicle on the day of purchase and for the next six days. Permits are available at park entrances and visitor centers. For a full list of fees, activities, safety precautions and more, see https://www.nps.gov/ jotr/index.htm or call (760) 367-5500.
