Independent Brewing Company

Seven years ago, we signed the documents establishing Independent Brewing Company, LLC. A few months later, we started brewing beer at 444 Harrison Street, near Jack London Square in Oakland, California. Since that time, we have been privileged to be part of a burgeoning beer scene in the neighborhood -- when we started, we were alone yesterday, there are five active breweries in the area and a sixth preparing to open -- and are proud to have been one of the founders of the... Jack London Brewing District. We have hosted some awesome art shows, have been the scene of some block-rattling metal shows, fantastic funk, classic and experimental rock, punk, hip hop, rap, spoken word, and mellow jazz. We have made many friends and faced countless challenges. Today, on the seventh anniversary of our founding, with much mixed emotion, we are announcing the permanent closure of Independent Brewing Company at 444 Harrison Street. The challenges of Covid-19 and an inability to find common ground on continuing our lease into the future have made it impractical to continue operations. We are currently evaluating our future as a company, but want to wish Oakland and the Jack London Square area, our fellow brewers in the Jack London Brewing District, and all of our regulars and friends (who are now like family), a fond farewell. Following the guidance issued today, March 15, 2020, by Gov. Newsom regarding coronavirus, Independent Brewing Company will be closed until further notice. We wish this were not the case but believe the advice is prudent and hope others take such guidance to heart as well. We love you, Oakland. Stay safe. Stay well.

We will be closed Wednesday 11/27 and Thursday 11/28 this week for Thanksgiving celebrations. We'll see everybody this weekend and wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving! Cheers!
