Pleased to start 2021 off with a live talk with the @museumofgraffiti. Lets see what my old brain can recall from my formative years in the 90s. _______________...________________________________ REPOST: Join us Wednesday, January 6th 7 pm EST for our IG Artist Talk as our host @carlosmare welcomes Augustine Kofie @keepdrafting from Los Angeles. Kofie who comes from a creative household began writing graffiti during the early 90s at a time when LA's scene was blossoming with talent. He distinguished himself as a great character painter among his peer group of writers in TPS, WCA, and UTI all formidable writing crews of the time. Kofie would eventually turn his attention to the deconstructing of letters through mechanical drafting and collage techniques pointing towards a new architecture for the graffiti art form. Join us tonight to learn about this artist’s career and journey. See more

A very collectible Al's Bar poster from 1999 by artist and screen printer John John Everett Miner featuring 400 Blows, Tongue, The Hug and Noise in Motion. And as it says in small letters in the top right hand corner: "A Birthday Bash For John Miner".
Al's Bar business card. Circa 1990.
Guatemalan native Jaime Colindres is a painter who creates his work mostly using found objects and salvaged pieces of particle board. Besides a few forays to mo...untain communities around Southern California a few of which ended in disaster he has spent much of the past three decades as an active member of the downtown Los Angeles Arts District community. Colindres was interviewed in March 2014 for the film Tales of the American, a documentary about downtown Los Angeles, Al’s Bar and the American Hotel, where he lived when this interview was conducted. He has since moved out of the American and now makes his art in an Atwater Village studio overlooking the Los Angeles River. Filmmakers Pamela Wilson and Stephen Seemayer interviewed more than a hundred artists, musicians, writers and others who lived, worked and partied in the community around the American. They are periodically releasing (in alphabetical order) edited versions of these interviews on the Tales of the American Interviews YouTube channel. Anna Broome is a poet, actor and painter who founded and produces a community arts showcase called the Anna Broome Room at Art Share L.A. in the downtown Los An...geles Arts District. Broome was interviewed at the American Hotel where she lived from 2009 to 2011 for the film Tales of the American, a documentary about downtown Los Angeles, the American Hotel and Al’s Bar.
