Cool remote learning opportunity for young string players with the Del Sol String Quartet This summer, after 25 fantastic years of Quartetfest, Del Sol is proud to announce a new program for young musicians who are looking to explore their creativity and share socially-distanced music with their friends! Zoomey Tunes is a two week program where students will compose a short piece of music for their solo instrument, and then be given a piece written by their peers to perform. Along with esteemed guest artists Danny Clay and Carla Kihlstedt, we hope to foster an environment for creating, sharing, and interpreting our own music. : https://www.delsolquartet.com/zoomeytunes

News from one of our local youth orchestras for teachers and parents: The Young People's Symphony Orchestra (YPSO) is an advanced level youth orchestra for students ages 11 to 21, is accepting video auditions for our 2020-21 orchestra season. The upcoming season includes three subscription concerts In Berkeley, our annual pops concert, and an exciting summer tour to Vienna, Leipzig, and Prague, celebrating the 251st anniversary of Beethoven at Vienna's Golden Hall. Yes, we h...ad to postpone the 2019-20 tour, but next year's tour promises to be as good or better! The orchestra rehearses at the historic First Congregational Church of Oakland, with easy access from Route 580, on most Monday evenings, 6pm to 9:30pm, September through early June. Students receive sectional coaching from talented professional instructors before the main rehearsal, followed by full rehearsal with Maestro David Ramadanoff, former San Francisco Symphony associate conductor, who has led YPSO for 31 years. The orchestra performs professional level classical music, so students should be comfortable with advanced techniques and sight reading.
