Gifted students often have many opportunities to emerge to learn new skills and explore fields of interest and may struggle to balance openness to possibility with goal orientation. The future of science and medicine is integrative and multidisciplinary, such that a diverse set of experiences and expertise can set you apart from the pack. As a former gifted and talented student of the 80s, Dr. Bethany Kwan will discuss how she has leveraged a diverse set of educational and ca...reer opportunities to yield her current success as a transdisciplinary NIH-funded researcher and teacher in a major US academic medical campus. About the Speaker: Bethany Kwan, Ph.D., MSPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Anschutz Medical Campus. Dr. Kwan holds a BS in Chemistry and Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University (2001). She received an MS in public health from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 2005 and her Ph.D. in social health psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2010. She is a research scientist and Educational Program Director for the University of Colorado’s Adult & Child Consortium for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS). Her research, which is funded by the NIH, PCORI, and other federal funders, addresses the integration of physical and behavioral health, chronic disease self-management, improving processes and systems of care to achieve the Quadruple Aim, pragmatic trials using electronic health data, and enhancing the quality of life for patients and care partners.
