For today's #ScienceSaturday, we are talking about the surgical hairloss treatment called follicle unit extraction (FUE). A lot of people are not sure exactly how follicle unit extraction (FUE) differs from follicle unit transplants (FUT). For FUE procedures, individual hair units are removed from the donor areas using a micro-punch technique. Each follicle is removed individually, and transplanted into the thinning scalp areas. Robotic technologies with optical sensors harve...st hair follicles in a scattered manner from an area of permanent hair, eliminating scarring and long recovery associated with the strip removal associated with FUT procedures. They are usually successful with few complications. The biggest problem with FUE procedures is that there is a fixed amount of "good" hair that can be harvested.
