Meet @sophieminoosh! She joined HoFoCo in July and has been helping us ever since! What first impressed Sophie most about the Community Exchange was the fast turnover of the food. So much of the food that you see is going to be on someone’s plate that night It’s such a rewarding feeling to know of the immediate impact the Community Exchange has for hundreds of people in the Hollywood community. Food needs and our food rescue program exploded during the past year! In response, we opened up The Exchange which supplies our kitchen andour partner organizations across LA County withfood and supplies. Our HoFoCo kitchen takes pride in taking donated ingredients and turning them into restaurant-quality meals for our clients. At our exchange, the brilliant @chubbah88 has developed a new ticket system where our community partners can now receive a beautifully curated bundle of items to create meals for their clients as well! The awesome team of Chiell & Nick from JETCET came by and donated a bundle of their Premium quality travel bags, masks, and accessories for our clients. We've heard from so many members of our unhoused community who need to store all of their worldly possessions in a safe and sturdy bag so donations like this mean that they can move around safely without worrying about their bags breaking or ripping. Council District 4 @nithyaforthecity selected them as their district’s Good Food Champion this year! The Hollywood Food Coalition (HoFoCo) seeks to construct a more cohesive, just, and compassionate community, and... serves over 50,000 delicious and healthy meals annually to unhoused and food insecure individuals, every single night of the year since 1987. In response to skyrocketing food insecurity throughout the city, exacerbated by the pandemic, HoFoCo opened the Community Exchange program in May 2020 to fill a missing component in the food rescue process. The Exchange is a free food concierge service that aims to provide small to medium-sized social service nonprofits with the food they need, when they want it, so they can focus on their missions. Just this year, HoFoCo rescued over 600,000 lbs of food from over 130 businesses and food recovery groups, and efficiently shared with over 60 nonprofits, providing an average of 10,550 meals per week to partner organizations. We want to send a big and THANK YOU to @thewonderfulcompany They donated 20,000 pounds of @halosfun to our HoFoCo Community Exchange, which now supports 20 other community partners as well as our nightly meal service! These organizations were able to come to our exchange and easily pick up sweet seedless mandarin oranges and supply a healthy snack for those in need. 2 of these cuties give our clients 50% of the VitaminC needed daily to keep healthy!

We welcome everyone at HoFoCo! While the majority of who we serve are unhoused each night we also feed anyone who is experiencing food insecurity. Coffee Commissary shares their straight-from-the-farm produce boxes with our Exchange every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. We use it to make our Community Dinner meals, and the extra gets distributed to other nonprofits. Thank you Coffee Commissary for this high quality, nutritious gift!
