Showing its bias and lack of understanding of housing markets, the California Legislature has passed AB 1482, entitled an Anti-rent-gouging bill, on a 46-22 vote. The bill restricts landlords from raising rents and will require landlords to demonstrate just cause before ousting tenants. NEW FHA REGULATIONS: ASSISTANCE ANIMALS Recent Federal Housing Administration regulations bring changes for landlords in 2020, including regulations on assistance animals. AB 1482: NOTICES REQUIRED AB 1482 requires landlords to notify tenants of their new rights using specified statutory language by certain deadlines in the coming year. For existing tenancies, notices must be given no later than August 1, 2020. For new leases or rental agreements that do not include this statutory language this written notices must be given on or after July 1, 2020.
