Day 30 of Women's History Month #WomensHistoryMonth. Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Okay - lets start with the easy one - Ginsburg paved the way for the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, which passed in 1974 and allowed women to apply for credit cards and mortgages without a male co-signer. Many of us still remember those times! She fought for equal pay. For a woman's right to choose. For the rights of women to serve on juries. Day 29 of Women's History Month #WomensHistoryMonth. We hear and read so much about the male fighter pilots. Today we want to talk about one of the women - Hazel Ying Lee. She became one of a select group of women qualified to fly high-powered, single-engine, fighter aircraft, including the P-51 Mustang. She was known for her humor and fearlessness. Lee’s service was typical of the over one thousand women who joined the WASPs. On average, they were paid less than men, had to... pay for their own room and board and even their own uniforms. They did not receive military benefits; and for those thirty-eight who died in service, the U.S. Air Force did not pay for funeral expenses. In 1977, President Jimmy Carter gave WASPs veteran status. Day 28 of Women's History Month #WomensHistoryMonth. We feel it is important to include Rachel Carson in Women's History Month. She published her famous work "Silent Spring" in 1962 which documented the dangers of indiscriminate use of synthetic pesticides. (Note - the post below is from Mighty Girl in 2018.)
