Social distancing, personal space, 6 feet apart - these are crucial now more than ever. BUT they’re abstract concepts that can be DIFFICULT to teach children!! I start with a story - Personal Space Camp by @juliacookonline - and we plop down to read it inside a big hula hoop. The hoop around us makes the invisible personal space visible! #socialdistancing #personalspace

Sofia Valdez Future Prez is one of my girls’ favorite books. Tonight we read it for the hundredth time. We talked about protesting and speaking up when things are unfair. Talking to kids about racism and injustice can start with a simple bedtime story.

Never been a big fan of behavior charts for kids, but this one for #parentbehavior made the fridge! hoping we can earn some stickers before bed. @workingmother @thepurpletoolbox

How can we use our OUTDOOR spaces to PLAN for a healthy and safe return to school in the fall? When my OT clinic reopens we’ll be using the outdoor spaces ONLY, and I’m excited about the challenges and opportunities that will create. Let’s plan together for this together! #outdoorot #outdoorclassroom #universaldesignforlearning #sunscreenandahat @washingtonpost @angelahanscom https://www.washingtonpost.com//why-kids-shouldnt-be-forc/

Balloon catch is a great way to practice gross motor skills - even with younger ones just learning the basics. Balloons are BIG, bright, and so much easier to catch! #grossmotorskills #grossmotorplay

Let me set the scene: it’s time to go inside from playing but my kids don’t wanna go inside yet. Sound familiar? I use very specific language in situations like this that presents a clear choice. It’s time to go inside now. Would you like to go inside on your own or would you like me to help your body go inside? After that, I give them a few seconds of WAIT TIME to make a choice. Then they either follow through on their own - or with my assistance. Give it a try and let me know how it goes! #howtotalksokidswilllisten #parenting #selfreg #choices

In the wise words of @ronfinleyproject - When kids grow kale, kids eat kale! I think it still counts if it’s in green smoothie form, right? #plantsomeshit #kidsgarden #kidsgardening (I’m pretty proud of the independence and coordination she’s showing pouring it all on her own!) #bilateralcoordination #independentkids
