YOUNG IMMIGRANTS CHALLENGE DACA RESTRICTIONS: Young undocumented immigrants have asked a federal court to block the scaling back of DACA after the Trump administration's efforts to end it were rejected by the Supreme Court. APPEALS COURT BLOCKS EFFORTS TO WEAKEN ASYLUM-SEEKER PROTECTIONS. A federal appeals court upheld a lower court ruling that allows women claiming domestic abuse and gang violence to seek U.S. asylum. DACA ORDERED RESTORED. The U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland issued an order in Casa de Maryland v. Dept. of Homeland Security on July 17, 2020, restoring DACA to its pre-rescission status. This decision goes beyond the Supreme Court’s June 18 determination that the DACA rescission was unlawful; it explicitly enjoins the Department of Homeland Security, or DHS, from implementing or enforcing the rescission. In light of these rulings, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, or USCIS, should accept initial DACA applications from those who have never held DACA as well as requests for advance parole. At this time, USCIS has yet to issue guidance or confirm that it will process such filings in compliance with these court decisions.

Facebook to ban hate speech against immigrants. As part of an effort to ban hate speech, Facebook said it would expand its policies to better protect immigrants, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. A federal judge ordered the release of children held in family immigration detention centers and criticized the Trump administration's prolonged detention of families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
