Years ago, in another lifetime, I had a friend that baked these cakes for a date fruit stand at Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley National Park. Mark Berry farmed the dates for a few years and we sold the cakes in the stand. They were a huge hit so I am going to do a series of Picnic Cakes this summer. This is the first offering. Date Chocolate Chip, extremely moist because of the dates, not to sweet with a crumble topping. For those that don’t like dates, you cannot taste them, they just make it moist.
