Dear AHCS Parents, Please read this information and take action to guarantee funding for our school and other public charter schools in California. During the r...ecent school budget negotiations, school districts who were concerned they may experience a drop in enrollment due to students leaving to attend a charter school sought to include trailer bill (AB 77) hold harmless language to protect them from a potential loss of funds for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. This language calls for funding all school districts and charter schools based on the number of students that were enrolled the previous school year, rather than the actual number of students enrolled in the coming school year. This will negatively impact all schools with growing enrollment, including the American Heritage Charter Schools. While the new state budget bill may benefit schools with declining enrollment, it does not allow schools to collect any additional funding for increases in enrollment for next school year. This means charter schools, like ours, will be expected to educate more students with substantially less money, having a devastating impact on our school. Because this legislation undermines your ability to choose the best school program for your children, we must vocally oppose AB 77. Please contact your state legislators and let them know this budget deal will harm charter schools and negatively impact your child’s education. The whole process will take only five minutes and will really make a difference for our schools. Following are directions to help you with the process: Please email the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee your opposition now, here is how to reach them: Written public comment or testimony may be directly provided to the committee by emailing the committee secretary at [email protected] Please also email Elisa Wynne K-12 and Child Care - [email protected] Please call Governor Newsom’s office before Friday and share your concerns. You can reach the governor’s office by phone at 916-445-2841 or via email at https://govapps.gov.ca.gov/gov40mail/ Recommended Talking Points: Be brief--staff are busy at this time of year. Introduce yourself as a constituent from their district. Note they may ask for your zip code to verify. At the conclusion of your message, thank them for their time. Phone or Email Script: I am a charter school supporter and am calling because I oppose the ADA cap with the state budget deal announced by the Governor and the Legislative leadership yesterday. The state budget proposal fails to provide fair funding to growing charter schools and districts. This budget holds all schools and districts at 2019-20 attendance levels for funding, even if they are a growing school or adding new grade levels. As a result, many charter schools would be educating additional students without being given the funding to do so. This will require parents to enroll their children in a new school if the charter school is no longer able to offer the grades, classes or courses their children were expecting. I urge the Governor and state legislators to revise the budget to reflect the value and priority we must place on education for all students and families. School funding should support students where they are attending- all new students should be funded. All charter schools should receive equitable funding to serve the students in their schools. Mr. Shawn Roner Executive Director American Heritage Charter Schools

Yearbooks for Sale ~ Last Chance! Don't miss out on getting a yearbook!! Supply is limited; there are only about 20 books left. Books may be ordered online through Josten's at jostensyearbooks.com for $35. If you are unable to order online, you may reserve your yearbook by emailing Mrs. Dominguez at [email protected]. Payment will be collected at a later date. Every year, we receive an unknown number of extra books. Once we run out of books to sell, students may email Mrs. Dominguez to add their name on a waiting list to purchase one of these extra books. We anticipate that books will be distributed towards the end of May and will let families know of the exact date as soon as possible.

New lessons for March 23 - 27 are now live on our website. Thank you for your flexibility over the last two weeks as we've transitioned to remote learning. Our team is always committed to providing the best possible educational experience for students and families, whether on campus or virtually. We understand that this national emergency has required everyone to adjust their habits and expectations, and there are many questions about the potential duration of school closures.... For the next two weeks, we’re asking families to follow the curriculum plan for their children as best they can. In terms of a potential long-term school closure, the administration and faculty have developed a plan to ensure students remain academically engaged through the remainder of the semester. As students work from home, we recognize the unique challenges this places on families, and teachers are taking steps to modify their curriculum and instruction accordingly. To help us better respond to the needs of students and parents, please provide us with feedback through the survey linked below. It has been very encouraging to see parents, students, and staff work together to support and care for one another through this difficult time. https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSc0u4YQ3BM6h67oew/viewform
