Lost Treasure: This drawing from our Biennial Tour Book of 1982, is of our Petaluma City Hall. Built in 1886 at No. 1 Kentucky Street, it was torn down in 1955 when the new city hall at Post & English Streets was built. This site has since served as a parking lot. Heritage Homes of Petaluma in 1988 had Victorian iron fences and cement wall built along the parking lot as a remembrance of the beautiful Gothic city hall that once stood there. This rendering is by Richard Shell, who was commissioned for a second time by Heritage Homes for this pen and ink drawing.

During this time of Shelter in Place, we are still finding time to get outside into our neighborhoods to walk (with proper physical distancing and protective wear, of course). Have you heard of the Bear Hunt (article below)? An activity for children of all ages to find which homes put a stuffed animal in their window. Let’s expand on this and have our own architectural hunt. We have Heritage Home of Petaluma plaques on homes throughout neighborhoods and some commercial space...s. Next time you’re out walking, look for the bears and look for the Heritage Home of Petaluma plaques!

With the uncertainty of the times and COVID-19, Heritage Homes of Petaluma has opted to cancel our Spring Parlor Tour in May. Although this is some time away, we have decided on erring on the side of caution for the health and safety of all of our community. We thank you all for your interest and apologize for any inconveniences. Stay safe everyone!
