With nearly 26 million children and adults in American living with diabetes, and another 79 million at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes, the disease is taking a devastating physical, emotional and financial toll on our country. November is American Diabetes Month, a time to rally individuals, communities and families to join the movement to Stop Diabetes. This year, the American Diabetes Association is asking individuals to take a pledge and raise their hand to Stop Diabetes. Beginning November 1, you can take action by taking the American Diabetes Month pledge on Facebook.

We have all heard that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Well there may be some real truth to that. A recent study published in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association, showed that people who consumed the most white produce had healthier cardiovascular histories. In fact, researchers say the risk of stroke was 52 percent lower for people who ate a lot of white fruits and vegetables compared to people who ate less. The study shows the decrease may be related to lowering blood pressure, which is the #1 risk factor for strokes. So enjoy your bananas, onions, and cauliflower (not together of course), they may keep strokes away! What is your favorite white-fleshed fruit or veggie?

Check out this amazing story of a 12 year old boy pulled lifeless out of the Pacific off the coast of Washington after being swept away in a riptide. Good quality CPR, hypothermic conditions, and a child's will to live turned this near tragedy into a story of survival. A must read!
