March 19, 2020 To all of our patients: Due to the Bay Area shelter-in-place order and because many of our patients are among those most vulnerable to COVID-19, we have made the decision to temporarily close our office to all patients without an appointment. Please no walk-ins. At this time, we anticipate resuming regular appointments after April 7th.... In addition to checking email and telephone messages daily, our office staff is available to you in many ways. Telephone please continue to call our office with any questions or concerns Email email us at [email protected] (our Hearing Science email address) Facetime for live troubleshooting. We’ll work this out together US mail batteries and other hearing aid supplies mailed to you. Do Not mail your hearing aids In-office service by appointment only for urgent matters Parking Garage Service Stay in your car, call when you arrive and we’ll come to you Rest assured that we are taking every precaution to keep you safe when visiting our office. First, we clean, clean, clean daily and then disinfect some more behind every person who enters our office. Most importantly, I have advised the building cleaning personnel to NOT enter our suite so that cross-contamination from one suite to another does not occur. Second, we confirm with everyone who enters our office that they are healthy with no symptoms. Incoming mail is placed through the mail slot and deliveries are met outside of our front door. The purpose of this letter is not to cause alarm; rather, only to provide you with assurance that we remain available to you during this difficult time. We wish you and your family the very best! Need hand sanitizer? Here’s a little project to work on while we’re sheltered-in-place. https://www.healthline.com/health/how-to-make-hand-sanitizer Sincerely, Jenifer and Spencer

Custom rechargeable hearing aids will be here in February!
Q. My hearing aid works intermittently: it works for awhile then fades. If I put it aside for a bit, it will work again. Why? A. This is typically due to either cerumen (ear wax) build-up in the hearing aid. In the morning hours, at room temperature, when the hearing aid is first used, it will be dry and perform well. As your body heat warms the aid, the wax build-up tends to become more fluid and will block the receiver. The effect is a reduction of the sound level and then a loss of function. When the hearing aid is set aside for a while, it may start to work again as the cerumen solidifies. This can often be resolved by changing the wax filter. Sometimes, the hearing aid may need to be repaired.
Dr. Timothy Shriver, chairman of the Special Olympics, shared this Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. quote. It got me thinking that as an audiologist I can be the light and love to my patients by helping them hear better. It is scientifically proven that better hearing reduces lonliness which leads to better health and longevity.
