KINESTHETIC BLIND SPOTS: We all have them. We can’t see the blind spot in our visual field: We can’t feel the kinesthetic ‘blind spots’ in the body. What makes a ‘blind spot’ in the body blind is our inability to find it in our proprioceptive feedback loop, our sense of self. If we can’t feel it we can’t ‘see’ it. If we can’t feel it we also can’t USE it. I call these ‘Kinesthetic Blind Spots’. They are blanks on our sensory motor map. Tom Hanna called this phenomena ‘Sensor...y Motor Amnesia,’ SMA for short. If an NMR therapist asks us to ‘match my pressure’ there may be a ‘cognitive delay’ as the brain can’t find the connections and begins to search for potential compensations or allies to help. Sometimes we twist the structure to shorten it in order to stabilize and brace. Sometimes we recruit a synergist to create the appearance of strength by splinting. These are muscular strategies born of necessity usually after a subclinical injury disables or knocks out a functional coordination strategy. Other signs that a body part is dysfunctional or disconnected are the automatic and unconscious adjustment of the body part being challenged and the automatic pausing of the breath as we concentrate hard on what we’ve been asked to do. All of these subconscious strategies are invisible to us. We’ve devised a work around and cannot choose NOT to use it. That’s why retraining the body using only exercise strategies is so labor intensive for some folks. They work hard at rehab but don't make the expected progress. This is where NMR can help NMR wakes up the motor learning center by consciously lighting up the ‘failed’ proprio-perception. Even if the client’s conscious mind doesn’t perceive the failure to respond, the kinesthetic brain does. This cues the body for new learning. Instead of forcing tight tissue to stretch or let go prior to giving activities or exercises to support movement, NMR introduces a novel ‘learning protocol’ that enables the motor coordination system to learn faster. Very valuable for corrective bodywork of ALL KINDS. At the Movement Guild in Chicago Adam Wolf and Jessica Carlin incorporate NMR and multiple movement education strategies to help teach the body new options. THIS IS THE FUTURE OF PHYSICAL THERAPY. NeuroMuscular Reprogramming NMR will be taught at the Movement Guild in Chicago April 23 - 25, 2021. Mark your calendar and plan to participate. Meanwhile this Fall 2020 Mods 1 - 3 will be offered as LIVE STREAMING via Zoom classes starting Sept 11 - 13th.

How Your JAW Recruits for Everything! I’ve written a lot about the consequences of injury to the sub-occipital rotators. One subsequent recruitment has not be...en addressed however: the use of lateral shift of the jaw to ‘initiate’ rotation when cervical rotation is impaired. I’ve seen bodies recruit jaw muscles for all kinds of rotations, even the contralateral rotation of the Thoraco/Lumbar junction and hip joints. As a potential synergist for upper cervical area the jaw muscles, which are incredibly strong (capable of 600 lbs of grip strength so I’m told), is in a good position to try to help stabilize an injured neck. I received an emergency call from a colleague this week. Her jaw was mal-occluded and wouldn’t close on the left side. It turned out to be a tension pattern that was probably functionally there as a preferred strategy already but had become exacerbated by external stressors. Working with the jaw/cervical/cranial complex is just that: Complex. If the jaw can’t close you’d think the issue was submandibular. This was not the case. Many of the jaw functions were intact: She could use masseters, open the jaws without deviation, shift the jaw left and right plenty strong. Rotating the neck at C1/C2 was weak to the left AND right. I corrected the upper cervical rotations first: (Lt OCS inhibited; Rt /Lt OCI). Then I tested the left lateral Pteregoids because they felt tight, (drop the jaw and shift to right to resist pressure from the right), then tested the right and left OCInferior again. They failed to respond = BOTH inhibited. The Ptergoid was inhibiting the left AND right rotation of the upper neck. Which probably should be more accurately described as the neck having recruited the jaw to stabilize following some sort of torsional?? whiplash injury. Releasing Left Pteregoid enabled a strong test for C2 rotation (Rt/Lt OCI). It also allowed the jaw to close on the left side. Eureka! I would not have expected to find this situation responsible for the inability to close the jaw. The first open/close tests I did were all facilitated without any lateral deviation of the jaw. The lateral deviations of the jaw were all strong too when we started. Once we had restored function to the rotations at C2 the Jaw no longer needed to stay uber-facilitated to stabilize the neck and we could get more direct release of the left Pteregoid. This photo is not too radical but the feeling of not being able to close your teeth on the left side is probably her experience too.

Deane Juhan’s book Job’s Body opened my eyes to the knowledge that we are born with all movements as potential. What we do with our bodies, (and what happens to them), increasingly specializes us over our lifetime. Specialization is the process of elimination; not accessing an option until we lose that option. If we want to keep more of our body awake we need to engage in activities that use all of us. What does that say about the best fitness training activities? What are the best activities in your opinion for maintaining full expression?

The truth must be told. This is a hot topic that often meets with resistance because the pharmacological companies have impunity to do whatever they want. Maureen Shaughnessy had introduced a lot of evidence into this discussion about the history of the deregulation of the process for obtaining permission to introduce new vaccines without appropriate years of testing that happened back in the early 80's. People who have first hand experience of this are often so emotionally upset that their testimony is discounted. Under this post are some amazingly candid first hand testimonials of what happened to our clients, friends and colleagues children. The post is primarily about what you can do to help your kids prosper even if you DO/DID choose to have them immunized, (such as I did).

Vasper is based on three scientifically proven principles compression technology, cooling and interval training. When all principles are working together, the results are extraordinary. Compression with Cooling creates the effect of a high intensity (anaerobic) exercise without the time, effort, and muscle damage it takes to achieve the same results with conventional exercise. Instead of feeling tired and sore, Vasper leaves you energized and rejuvenated, alleviating your b...ody aches and pains. The goal with Vasper is to minimally stress the muscles, still triggering a systemic recovery response. This new, patented health and rehabilitation technology stimulates the natural production of anabolic hormones, which have wide-ranging Health, Tissue Repair, Rehabilitation and Performance Benefits.
