We know that dropping your child off is not an easy thing to do. Here are a few tips to help you avoid tears as you and your little one start your days in different directions. 1. Routine. Establish a routine of two kisses on the cheek and a squeeze (or whatever works for you). When my youngest started school we started saying "lovey dovey woo woo" that was followed up by a silly hand wave. Having that little gesture no matter how chaotic drop off was, was very helpful. The...re is actually a book titled 'The Kissing Hand' by Audrey Penn. It's about a raccoon named who really doesn't want to go to school. A special kiss on the hand from his mama serves as a reminder that she is always with him. Read this book to your little one and establish a routine of your own. 2. Don't hangout. I know you love your daycare staff and want to chat with them a bit but sometime dawdling can confuse your child. Instead of them seeing this moment as a drop off they may think it's a short visit and expect to leave when you do. Try chatting with the daycare staff as you pick up instead. 3. Be confident. We know that occasional tears may happen. We also know that your child picks up on your emotions. Talk through what to expect with your child and set the tone with excitement.
