2019 HAWAIIAN HULA WORKSHOPS BY KUMU HULA LEIHI'ILANI KIRKPATRICK FINAL ORDER FOR SHIRTS BEING PLACED MONDAY, JAN 28 ONLINE ORDERS:... https://on.spingo.com/e/2019_hawaiian_hula_workshops/22502 Our shirt celebrates the heart and legacy of King David Kalakaua who exemplified HE PUA LAHA OLE...A FLOWER NOT COMMON. This is an 'olelo no'eau used as an expression of one who is as choice and highly prized as a very rare blossom. This phrase could be used to describe a special person, rare and hard to come by. (source: http://morningmanao.blogspot.com/2010//he-pua-laha-ole.html) Kalakaua was known as the Hawaiian Renaissance man who revived the hula, the arts, the culture and the traditons of his people. He passed away while on Mainland USA soil on January 20, 1891 while seeking help for people of Hawai'i. Let us honor what he did for is as hula people and challenge ourselve to be bold and diligent to follow suit in our own Mainland Hula Renaissance. MAHALO TO OUR TSHIRT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT TEAM! Auntie Kahanoa Floresca, Uncle Don "Kupono" Floresca and Paul Blackwell.
