Heading into Fall I would like to remind you to check your roofs if they are older. Clean out the debris from your roof gutters. If you have outside drains make sure they are clear. Trim the trees of your roof line.

heading into Christmas season would like to remind you to check your wiring and use surge protectors for your Christmas lights. Clear all gutters for hopefully a rainy winter. Timer lights should be operational in your home to make it look like you are at home, and will minimize any break-ins while you are away during the holiday season. One last roof check before we head into winter. Do not leave christmas presents in your vehicle that can be seen by someone walking by your vehicle, and just be aware of anyone just hanging out in the shopping mall parking lot! Report them to security! Have a safe and wonderul holiday season!!

Today is the first day of summer and here is some summer insurance recommendations from The Hartley Co. 1)Set rules and restrictions with youthful drivers this... summer. An ounce of prevention goes a long ways to keep an accident or ticket off your youthful drivers record. they are the most expensive class of drivers to insure. My rule of thumb with youthful drivers is you must maintain a 3.0 GPA which gives them a 20% good student discount in order to have access to the family vehicles. 2)Start trimming your trees that go over the roofline of your residence. 3)Have the roof checked by a licensed roofer. We like McKay roofing in Santee. two local PL graduates own and run that company. 4)If you have AC in your home get it serviced now so it is more efficient in the summer time when it is hot. If you plan on going on any extended vacations have someone watch your home or get automatic timers for your lights to come on at night and go out in the morning. Do not put on Facebook that you are leaving the airport and going on vacation. Good way to get ripped off when you are away. post to Facebook when you get home with all your awesome photos to share. All for now and enjoy these long summer days and make some time to go to the ocean and jump in and watch the beautiful sunsets. Brian See more

Spring has sprung. Now is the time to assess your spring cleaning and summer household projects. Need to prioritize fixing the outside parts of your properties that relate to any type of water seeping or damage. Pull out the lawn and put in a dryscape with California native drough tolerant plants, as we know our water bills are not going down. Go out and enjoy this beautful weather here ini San Diego which I refer to as Mainland Hawaii! Cheers Mate

With the rains coming this winter. Make sure you have your gutters checked and cleaned out. trim all the trees away from the roofline. Walk around your house during a good rain and see where the water is movinig on your property. You want to keep the moisture away from your foundation by using a french drain, river rock etc. Fix the roofs if they are over 15-20 years old. Surface and flood waters that come into your home are not covered by the homeowners policy but with a separate flood insurance policy.

Tomorrow is the start of winter and the shortest day of the year. Be sure you have San Diego Gas and Electric come out and service your furnances or heaters. During this time there are a lot of house and vehicle break ins. Be sure to not leave valuables in your vehicle, and if you go on holiday, have your paper stopped and set some timers for your lights to come on when the sun goes down. If you have a neighbor have them check on your residences while your away. Do not leave Christmas presents viewable in the back of your vehicle. It will save you a broken window and a lot of grief. Merry Christmas to all my friends and clients. The Hartley Co.-Insurance is celebrating its 65 anniversary this Fall. Could not do it without clients like you.

Recently a big fire in our condominium complex has stressed the need for every renters, condo and homeowners should have a good healthy level of at least 6-12 months for additional living expenses if they are forced to leave their residence during demolition, clean up and construction. It takes the City 6-8 weeks to issue a permit to rebuild after a loss. The current buildings need to be brought up to code extending the time to start construction. If you have any insurance needs or questions, call The Hartley Co.

Just returned from Yellowstone with an incredible wildlife/hiking adventure with Renee. Summer is approaching. Here are some summer insurance tips. If you leave to go on vacation here are some things you should do. 1)stop your paper or have someone stay in your residence while you are absent. 2)If no one is staying in your home shut off your water going to the residence. This can prevent a major water damage claim if a toilet runs over, the line to the refridgerator breaks, or a water line in the home breaks. 3)Have automatic lights that come on at nightfall. Establish a neighborhhod watch with your neighbors and inform them when you are going on vacation. We wish you all happy and safe crusing or sailing. Thank you for all your support over the years.
