Harbor PT puts your health first during this challenging time. We have made several changes in our clinic to keep you safe, while staying on track with your plan of care. For patients coming in to the clinic: All staff and patients are wearing masks at all times. Patients are required to wash their hands upon entering the clinic, and we have gloves and hand sanitizer available. Therapists thoroughly wash hands before and after treating each patient, and wear... gloves during treatment. Aides are continuously cleaning all surfaces and equipment after each use with a Clorox hydrogen peroxide-based virucidal disinfectant. We have limited the number of patients being treated at a time and have increased the use of private treatment rooms over gym use. Treatment tables and equipment in the gym have been rearranged to ensure that appropriate physical distancing can take place. For patients who are unable to attend the clinic: Please contact the office if you are interested in scheduling telehealth visits with one of our trusted therapists. We will also be posting educational resources (videos, articles, etc.) to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. See more

Congratulations to Harbor PT’s very own Colleen O’Donnell, who started grad school today towards her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree! Colleen grew up at Harbor PT, learning what physical therapy is all about from her favorite teacher & coach - her dad, Mike O’Donnell. She has seen both sides of the profession; as an elite athlete, she has had her share of injuries requiring the expertise of therapists. As an aide in the clinic, she has learned about the practice of physical... therapy from Mike & the other therapists & staff, as well as from the many patients she has enjoyed working with. Colleen is a natural, & with her enthusiasm for learning, her strong work ethic & her exuberant personality, she will make an excellent physical therapist. Her dad couldn’t be prouder that Colleen is carrying on the O’Donnell physical therapy legacy. Best of luck, Colleen! . . . #physicaltherapy #PT #DPT #dptstudent #classof2023 #sportsmedicine #telehealth #telemedicine #physiotherapy #physio #healthandwellness #functionalstrength #mobility #athlete #sport #workout #rehab #prehab #exercise #prevention #gym #sanpedro #longbeach #csulb See more

Over the next several days, we will be uploading 7 self-test videos to assess your body’s functional strengths and weaknesses. These tests are used to assess mobility, stability, and motor control. You can perform these tests at home with very little equipment: a doorway, a dowel, masking tape, and a board (such as a 2x6). These tests are modeled after the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) program designed by Gray Cook and Lee Burton. In the case that you do not pass any of th...ese tests, the corrective exercises will be also be provided, so that you can improve in these specific areas. Each tests will be presented in order, so please focus on improving the first test results before moving to the second, and so on. . . . . . #physicaltherapy #PT #DPT #sportsmedicine #telehealth #telemedicine #physiotherapy #physio #healthandwellness #functionalstrength #mobility #athlete #sport #workout #rehab #prehab #exercise #prevention #gym #sanpedro #fms #functionalmovementscreen

To our Harbor Physical Therapy family, We at Harbor Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine care deeply about your health and safety. As COVID-19 continues to spread within the U.S., we want you to know that we are taking every precaution to keep our patients, our healthcare providers, and our community safe. In a memorandum released March 19, 2020, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that those individuals who work in a critical infrastructure industry, such as hea...lthcare services, have a special responsibility to maintain their normal work schedule. According to Dr. Matos, an expert in biologic surety and the management of select agent programs at federal facilities: Physical therapists are essential in flattening the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic. They play a key role in keeping people they can help out of the doctor offices and ERs. This will not only free up the medical teams to treat those impacted by COVID-19, but also limit the exposure of those seeking the care of the physical therapist. In complying with these recommendations, we will continue to remain open to provide physical therapy on a limited basis. We are asking that those individuals who have any signs or symptoms of illness remain home. Additionally, individuals who are elderly or immunocompromised likewise should remain sheltered at home. In an effort to provide you with the best possible care, we are currently developing Telehealth portals which will allow us to maintain contact with you, and help you continue to progress toward your rehabilitation goals. If you are interested in pursuing Telehealth with Harbor Physical Therapy, please email us at [email protected] or call the office, and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you for the confidence you have placed in Harbor Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine. As always, the health and safety of our patients is our highest priority. Sincerely, Michael O’Donnell, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT And All Harbor Physical Therapy Staff

How Harbor PT is Protecting Patients & Staff Novel human coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is of concern to all of us. We are taking tangible steps to help prevent the spread of disease and protect our patients and staff.... STAY AT HOME IF YOU ARE SICK A key point is keeping people who are ill away from other people. Therefore, we have instructed any staff feeling ill to remain at home. We ask the same of any patients feeling ill. PRACTICE PROPER HAND & WRIST HYGIENE Wash your hands and your wrists often. Staff regularly wash their hands between patients, but we are placing extra emphasis on this. We ask patients to wash their hands, or use hand sanitizer, before and after treatment. COVER YOUR COUGHS & SNEEZES WITH A TISSUE Please cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. If no tissue is handy, sneeze or cough into a bent elbow. Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing regularly. AVOID TOUCHING YOUR EYES, NOSE OR MOUTH People frequently touch their eyes, nose or mouth without even realizing it. Try and eliminate this behavior, particularly after touching objects or being around someone who is coughing or sneezing. CLEANING & DISINFECTION IN OUR CLINIC We have always practiced good cleaning and disinfecting protocols and have increased the frequency and depth of those efforts. Rest assured that we are paying extra attention to items that are frequently touched. @ Harbor Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine
