We had fun delivering Our House to Your Home boxes to 50 families on Saturday! The boxes are filled with activities for families to do together at home to gain a deeper understanding of our Harbor House families and their journeys. We have loved getting texts, emails, and photos from people as they open their boxes. One of those emails is below: "Thank you so much for the beautiful box! Our family plans to spend Thanksgiving week unpacking its contents and engaging in t...he thoughtful activities. During this time of unrest and hostility, we are grateful for Harbor House's tremendous efforts to deliver peace and joy, and to bring people, families, and communities together. We pray for God's riches blessings on the Harbor House community this holiday season and beyond." All fifty boxes "sold out" this first round. If there is enough interest, we may consider doing a second round. If you didn't get a box, but might like one, let us know!

We recently added a new 6th grader to our learning pod. After just three days of her being in the pod, we received this email from her math teacher: "Honestly attending HH has already had a markedly positive impact on both her emotional well-being and her academic performance."

This article rings very true. It's why we are offering learning pods at Harbor House. There are so many kids for whom distance learning just cannot work from home. We are grateful that we can be a small part of the solution, but the need is enormous, and we need many more pods/hubs througout Oakland. Our amazing community partners Street Soccer USA are back in action with a soccer workshop for the kids in our learning pods on Wednesdays. It's so wonderful to have a little bit of normalcy back for our kids - and really great to see them getting a little bit of exercise.

Masks make great blindfolds in an obstacle course challenge! Kids in our NEW Soul Care club for 5th and 6th graders are having fun deepening their relationships with one another and learning about Faith in an Anxious World.

OUSD teachers had a Professional Development Day today, but the students in our learning pods still came to Harbor House today to catch up on assignments and have some fun. Our 5th and 6th graders created these beautiful weavings. May your weekend be filled with creativity and beauty, too!

In between zoom sessions, the kids in our younger pod get to play, build, create, and stretch. Last Friday, they made cards for firefighters during art time.

Starting middle school is hard enough on its own. Doing it during a pandemic is even more challenging. These 6th graders are getting the hang of switching classes and teachers and navigating new schedules with the assistance of our learning pods. We loved the ingenuity of one student...using her school Chromebook to complete her work and her Harbor House Chromebook to attend class!
