As Fathers Day approaches, here's a great memory of my dad sharing his Harbor Cove Lodge maintenance chores with me in the mid '70s, the reason I love taking care of it now. I think of him whenever I'm fixing things around the house. I channel his fantastic ability to diagnose the problem and mentally design the solution. Jerry Albright returned from his World War II service in France and Germany to become an appliance repair person. A short man, he had incredible strength a...nd an uncanny sense of leverage. He delivered appliances to customers alone, using his dolly to climb stairs. When the television was produced, he went to technical classes and became a TV repairman. When my parents bought Harbor Cove Lodge, he had the main house and ten old cabins to maintain in Big Bear Lake. Dad handled the electrical, plumbing and structural repairs. He fitted his ride-on lawnmower with a snow shovel for winter. He and I designed a garage and he oversaw its construction. His abilities were amazing. Oh, and through it all, he displayed his joking, word playing humor, his caring for others, his devotion to my mom, and his warm personality. And you gotta love his plaid shirt, high belt and retractable keychain, which is proudly displayed today at our Harbor Cove Lodge.

Harbor Cove Lodge is missing its happy families but, like the entire community, it is closed for business until it is safe.
