We're so excited to be hosting our spring Makers Market tomorrow, April 10 from 12-3 PM. Please come support these young entrepreneurs and shop the amazing products they have been creating! There will be lots of fabulous handmade items for sale including custom light switches, jewelry, key chains, soaps, bath bombs, marbled pots and mugs, picture frames, greeting cards, tie dye, headbands, bows and more!! Market will be held at our studio - 1900 McHenry, Suite 203. See you then!

Monet’s Japanese Bridge was part of his very famous Water Lilies series consisting of approximately 250 oil paintings, inspired by his flower garden at his home in Giverny, France.

I love teaching about famous artists in history, especially Monet - my favorite. Students learned about Impressionism and Claude Monet’s life, which was not an easy one. The lesson we learn from most master artists is how they stayed true to themselves and followed their hearts + passion, no matter how hard it was! A great reminder to never give up on your dreams!

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer These are possibly the cutest pinch pots ever created in the Happy Artists studio. I didn’t want to send them home today!

As a mom, I think the handmade ornaments are one of the most treasured childhood keepsakes. In our Holly Jolly Ornament Workshop artists rolled out air-dry clay like sugar cookie dough and cut out whimsical shapes including a llama, ice cream cone, rainbow, art palette & paintbrush. Then they hand painted and decorated each one. They also made a reindeer, fingerprint snowman, snowman wearing earmuffs, and Santa in a snow globe! It’s hard to pick a favorite, but the art palette and paintbrush are two of mine.

Today each of my little ornament crafters took home their sparkly tree filled with the most special handmade ornaments. I hope this will be a treasured Christmas keepsake forever!

Peg doll family portraits When I asked my students, What is the ONE thing you are MOST thankful for? The unanimous answer was FAMILY. Although our kids have missed out on lots of things this year, they’ve definitely received quality time with their families, which has surely been a blessing in disguise. These peg doll family portraits will be a forever keepsake of 2020!

Happy Holiday makers finished their adorable advent calendars in our last class today. Notice the little peg doll Santas on top, complete with sleighs, miniature gifts and bottle brush trees! The countdown is ON to our holiday session, which begins December 1. Classes are filling up FAST, so please don’t wait to get your spot! Projects in our third fall session have been inspired by GRATITUDE. Although 2020 has been a real humdinger, we sure have learned a lot, haven’t we?! Most of all, we’ve learned to appreciate little things we often take for granted, like hugs. I’m a hugger, so this has been very challenging for me! 2020 has made us especially thankful for our safe homes & these happy cottage collages remind us that home is where the heart is!

Something my students tell me a lot is that they would like to live at the studio. It’s the cutest thing + makes me smile every time because it’s just about the best compliment that they could ever give me! It says that they feel comfortable, happy and accepted. My hope is that every child feels inspired, excited and encouraged when they come to our studio. It’s October, my favorite month! Makers have been busy creating the most darling autumn projects. First up, pumpkin painting + glittering in dreamy fall colors! Inside every child is a rainbow waiting to shine. The most rewarding feedback I hear from parents is when they tell me that they have found their child’s thing through our art classes. When they’ve tried every activity known to man & nothing has clicked, but THIS has. When they’ve never seen as much joy and excitement in their child when participating in any other extra-curricular activity. Helping children discover their creative gifts is my mission & it brings me so much happiness to see a young artist gain value & confidence through our art classes. These self-portrait collages are time consuming to create, but artists learn a lot through the process - color theory, pattern design, collage, decoupage, and of course self-reflection! They had the opportunity to explore a variety of mediums including paper, paint, wood, mod podge & fun decorations like sequins, rhinestones, buttons & pom poms. I try really hard to design projects that will be saved & treasured. I definitely think this one is a keeper!

Self portrait collages are my new favorite thing. Can’t wait to show them all to you!

Happy September, my friends! I can't believe it, but my little studio is turning four years old this month! It's been a magical four years of making and creating with the amazing children of my community. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to do what I love. Thank you for supporting my studio and helping me grow. I'm praying that Happy Artists will be able to survive the pandemic and celebrate 5 years! We're doing our best to hang on during this extremely difficult time. Before COVID-19 hit, plans we’re in the works for our second location & I’m hoping that will still happen someday. Starting and running a business is no joke & I’m so happy to celebrate 4 years!

We kicked off our first fall session with this sweet & simple picture book that has a very important message: YOU MATTER. Painted papers were made in beautiful skin and hair tones, ready for self-portrait collages. It is my hope and prayer that every child who enters my studio feels valued, loved and accepted!
