For those of you that have been wondering, what ever happened to those darn thrips? Well, we managed to somewhat get them under control! It took us quite a while and they did quite a lot of damage to our crop this year, but you know what was our most effective secret weapon? Tobacco. That’s right and if you’re thinking, WHAAT? No, we didn’t just smoke a mountain of cigarettes in the greenhouse and killed all the thrips with secondhand smoke. We value our lungs too much for th...at and we don’t farm like Frenchman here What we did do was a secret (not so secret now) trick we’ve done in years past, which is to make a tea with our tobacco and mixed that tea with diatomaceous earth and sprayed that on our plants and slowly but surely the thrips have been abatedA completely organic solution to our pest problems! The upside is that our Pimientos de Padrón, Fraises de bois and Cucumbers have been able to recover in the greenhouse and we have a great crop for our late season. Pimientos de Padrón and cucumbers have been available on our website. You can place your order and get them delivered right to your door We ship Mondays! #organic #sustainability #sustainableagriculture #peppers #organicpestcontrol #sustainable #ordernow #delivery #tobacco #organicagriculture #thrips #farm #farming #pepperfarming #pimientosdepadron #bayarea #bayareaagriculture #california #californiaagriculture #eastpaloalto

We wanted to take the time to let you all know that this year, unlike last year, we will have veeeery few Aji Amarillo, Rocoto and almost no Aji Dulce. All these amazing Peruvian and Central American varieties that we wait for all year We made the mistake of planting them in our greenhouse this year and disease and bugs had their way with them. The few that we have will be posted weekly to our website and will be available to be shipped to your door. Sign up for our newsletter to know when more inventory is posted to the pepper shop. We ship nationwide! #ajiamarillo #rocoto #peruvianpeppers #localbusiness #localpeppers #sustainable #sustainablefood #sustainablefarming #getyours #peppers #pepper #chilis #delivery #nationwide #badyear #notmany #notmanyleft #happyquailfarms #ceviche #cevicheperuano #ceviches

Not to add to the doom and gloom of it all... Positive change has to happen: political, social and environmental. Register to vote, stay safe and do what you can. Take a day like this to reflect on what actions you’re taking to make the change you want to see. Support small, sustainable agriculture, drive less, recycle more, compost... Every bit makes a difference. This cannot be our new normal.
