Extended Testing Window: To anticipate any potential scheduling difficulties for the May 2021 examination, HTCC will again extend its testing window by two weeks. The exam will be administered at PSI testing centers by appointment only from April 26th through May15th. Score reports may be delayed by 1 week. Live Remote Proctoring: HTCC hopes to be able to offer Live Remote Proctoring (LRP) for the May 2021 exam; however, due to the high demand for remote proctoring by certification programs worldwide, HTCC is on a waiting list, and we are awaiting a 2021 launch date by PSI. https://conta.cc/3oDXv6O

ASHT Orthosis Denial Data Collection Project https://www.asht.org/asht-orthosis-denial-data-collector ASHT has been collaborating with the American Occupational Therapy Association and the American Physical Therapy Association and the Academy of Hand and Upper Extremity (APTA) in an effort to address a problem with orthosis denials and CMS. CMS has a rule that a patient cannot receive the same orthosis code within a five-year timeframe (the Reasonable Useful Lifetime"). Th...is is problematic for hand therapists who custom fit and fabricate orthoses for a number of reasons: 1. Many orthoses that are worn regularly do not last five years 2. Patients lose or break their orthoses 3. Many of the L codes apply to a wide variety of designs 4. Patients can have different conditions occur during this timeframe that require the same L code The appeal process is cumbersome, and most times does not elicit an approval of the orthosis We are asking that ASHT members and hand therapists across the country submit information about denials you have seen related to reasonable useful lifetime restrictions. Our goal is to gather data to demonstrate the continued impact this is having on practitioners. Please do not include patient names or identifiers in your submissions. Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide us with information regarding the Medicare orthosis denials you have experienced. If you have multiple cases of these denials, please enter each denial. At the end of the survey, you will be able to continue entering additional examples of denials.

HTCC anticipates that the application for the November Examination will open in late July. Once the application is open, HTCC will send an eligibility file to PSI of all candidates who were deemed eligible for the May 2020 exam. Approximately 5 days after receiving the eligibility file, PSI will contact the candidates with instructions on how to schedule the exam. HTCC does not intend to cancel the November exam; however, we must adhere to all state and local restrictions a...nd must rely on the availability of PSI test centers. Additionally, HTCC is exploring all alternative options with PSI.
