If there’s anything that we’ve learned in these unique times it’s that we need to put our health first. We need to reconsider what we consider to be health. We need to slow down and consider our lifestyle choices on a day-to-day basis. We need to reconsider the food we eat, the things we drink, and the way we view sleeping. These are all things that are difficult to retrain the adult on but they are absolutely things that we can be install in our children from the day they’re... born. It’s important that we consider our lifestyle choices and how they’re going to play a role in our children’s lives. When we start to put longevity and quality of life into our day-to-day and lifestyle choices we are literally reconfiguring the human ability to adapt. This is important because it ultimately is going to provide the child with a better life experience. And if that child grows up with positive lifestyle choices they are more apt to educate and help their future children understand the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. Be on purpose. Being on purpose is about aligning your life and your day-to-day in a manner that allows you to get closer to your goals and dreams with each and every day, week, month, and year. It’s very easy to get caught up in the day to day w/ time flying by and not realize that you’re off your path. You’re no longer on the path to ultimately reach your goals and your dreams.... This is probably one of the most important ideas if not the most important idea that has to be excepted. Without a organized plan or without proper structure there are too many obstacles and too many distractions that stop you from reaching your goals. So be on purpose. Start your day off on purpose. Take the time before you go to bed and the time when you wake up in the morning to check yourself. 2020 dialed our stress levels up to all time highs. Even if your lifestyle wants halted by Covid you most likely know a family member or friend’s life that was. It almost seems impossible for us to go back to our normal daily routines but I highly insist that we must get back to the way things used to be. Adjust to the differences that might now be in your life and do the best you can to use your coping mechanisms to w...ard off the inevitable stress. The stress created is very toxic to your body. It's that time of the year! Kids are headed back to school. Wait, not so fast. They're not heading anywhere. They're getting comfy in front of a computer to experience what is being called "the new normal". Let's hope this is just a temporary thing. Hey maybe it's actually working out perfectly for you and you're enjoying having your little one home for school! Either way, let's make sure this is the best case and a great experience for your children. So the kids are home/sch...ooling which means you get to watch them interact first hand while they're "in school". This is a great opportunity for everyone. Parents now have a much greater role in the growth and development of their children's education. Personally, I think this is a POWERFUL problem to be in. Hands for Life Ocean Beach is extremely passionate about childhood education. We believe this is the foundation of our kid's future and the world as a whole! We absolutely could go on and on about education, however, this article is going to target FIVE ergonomic changes while taking classes online. 1. Sitting vs. Standing This is the beginning for me because it's going to change your body position and where you should establish the rest of your workspace. 2. Computer screen height When adjusting the screen you'll want your child to keep a "neutral spine" - chin tucked (not down but tucked as if you're double chinning) w/ eyes slightly gazing at the horizon. The horizon is where the computer screen is placed. 3. Keyboard placement You'll want the keyboard at a height that allows your elbows bent at 90 degrees in a rested position. Shoulder width apart. 4. Pelvis This varies depending on if your child is sitting or standing. I like switching between the two positions every 15-30 mins. Like right now... moving back to the standing position. Now, the goal here is core engagement. If you're sitting you're at 90-degree hip flexion core engaged. While standing you're engaged minimizing anterior pelvic tilt. 5.
