You know what day it is! Happy #funfactfriday Did you know that the Silicon Valley landmark Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont has been a functioning farm for over a century and a half? It's true, but Ardenwood offers a lot more history than just farming. Read on to learn more Ardenwood Farm was founded in the 1850s when George W. Patterson migrated west during the California Gold Rush. After striking out on gold, he found success farming. To this day Ardenwood Farm stil...l produces grain and vegetables. Patterson built the gorgeous Pennsylvanian-style farmhouse with a Queen Anne-esque addition, appropriately named the Patterson House, in 1857. It has since become a mainstay of the property and a popular event and wedding venue. Another feature of the historic property is Ardenwood Station, a museum that operates a recreation of the South Pacific Coast Railroad and displays 19th century railroad artifacts. Today, there are many fun family activities to partake in at Ardenwood Historic Farm including: a traditional Independence Day celebration , Perry's Pumpkin Patch and Haunted Railroad in the fall , the Harvest Festival in October , and music festivals and the Animal Farm year round . From historical reenactments by staff clad in Victorian clothing to special seasonal events, there is something for everyone at Ardenwood. What is your favorite part of the park? Welcome back for your first fun fact of 2021! Did you know that our beloved city of San Jose was the first capital of California? Keep reading to learn more about the third-largest city in the state and how it came to be! San Jose was named after Saint Joseph, patron saint of pioneers and travelers, and was founded by Spanish settlers on November 29, 1777. Shortly thereafter, it became a Mexican territory before ultimately becoming part of the United States in 1848. When C...alifornia achieved statehood in 1850, San Jose was declared its capital. Much has changed since then. Although San Jose is no longer the capital of California, it has been deemed the Capital of Silicon Valley. It is the cultural, political, and economic center of the region and is home to numerous tech industry leaders. San Jose is the global epicenter of technological innovation, and its residents produce more patents than any other city in the US. With roots back to the late 18th century, San Jose has a rich history and is a unique mixture of classic and modern. What is your favorite place to visit in San Jose? I'd love to hear below! #funfactfriday

Winter is upon us, and no matter how mild our CA winters may be, changes in temperature and weather can cause damage to your house over time. It's important to take the proper maintenance measures each year to protect your home during the winter months. Here are some tips to winterize your house Check gutters and drainage to prevent flooding or water damage Inspect water heater for cracks or rusting to avoid a cold shower and costly damage repairs... Check all windows & doors for gaps these can affect your heating bill by letting in cold air, reseal if necessary Check fireplace & chimney to ensure circulation. A dirty or clogged chimney and fireplace can create a lot of unwanted smoke Trim trees to avoid falling limbs that could potentially cause damage to your home Cover or store patio furniture for protection Check that outdoor lights are functioning properly and there is no damage as they will be on longer Have your HVAC system inspected. They are prone to carbon monoxide emissions which can be unsafe, so have a professional come out to inspect them. Don't forget to change furnace filters monthly. Following this checklist will help you get your home winter ready in no time! Am I missing any tips? Let me know below. #winteriscoming

This year was marked by challenges and change, but with it came successes and celebrations. We leave this year with grateful hearts and look forward to a new year of opportunity. This year’s unprecedented events led by the coronavirus pandemic presented unforeseeable challenges in our daily lives. From shelter in place restrictions to working from home, we all had to unexpectedly adapt to keep ourselves and others safe. Despite the unpredictable changes throughout the year,... there is still much to celebrate. In the world of real estate, the pandemic caused a surge in the market that is unlikely to slow down any time soon. Low interest rates made it a great time to buy while low housing inventory made it a great time to sell which is evident in the industry trends and data. We are grateful for a year highlighted by many accomplishments, adventures, and homes sold. Don’t just take our word for it--the numbers below speak for themselves We are so thankful for a prosperous year in the midst of many challenges. We look forward to the new year with hope and optimism and are excited to continue being a part of and serving the Silicon Valley community! #newyear

Happy Friday! I owe you all a fun fact, so let's get to it. Did you know that the fourth highest peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains is located in our own backyard? That's right, Mount Umunhum peaks at 3,489 feet and is located just south of San Jose. In addition to the beautiful views at the top, Mount Umunhum is rich in history. Mount Umunhum, which means resting place of the hummingbird, was originally home to 70 Native American tribes that regularly summited the mountain ...to pray and grow diverse plants. Many of those plants still occupy the area making it home to unique, native vegetation. Many years later during the California Gold Rush, Mount Umunhum was settled by German and Austrian refugees that cultivated orchards and vineyards to live off the land. This community resided in the area for nearly 60 years. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. government converted Mount Umunhum into the Almaden Air Force Station, a radar surveillance station used during the Cold War. Although the radar tower still stands as a historic structure, it has not been used by the U.S. military since 1980. In 2017, Bay Area Native Americans were granted property rights to Mount Umunhum. Today it is a nature destination for locals and tourists alike that summit the mountain for the sprawling ocean and mountain views. Have you visited Mount Umunhum? Share your favorite part of this landmark with me below! #funfactfriday
