Home Stretches for Knee/Hip Pain Relief Experiencing pain in your knees and/or hips? Here are some home stretches that can bring relief: 1.Calf stretch. Stand 3 to 4 feet from a wall and lean on it with your forearms, your head resting on your arms. Bend your left leg and plant your foot in front of you, leaving your right foot straight behind you. Slowly move your hips forward until you stretch the calf of your right leg. Keep your right heel on the floor, toes forward. Then..., switch sides. 2.Quads stretch. Stand a foot away from a wall, facing it. Steady yourself by placing your left hand on the wall at shoulder height. Shift your weight to your right foot. Keeping your thighs together, lift your left foot behind you. Grab the top of your left foot with your right hand and gently pull, drawing your heel toward your buttocks. Then, repeat with your right leg. 3.Hip stretch. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Move your left leg forward until your knee is directly over your left ankle. Bend your right leg and lower your body until your right knee is resting on the floor with your foot extended so that the top of it is on the ground. Rest your palms on the floor on either side of your left foot for balance. Your chest should rest on your left knee. Without changing the position of your right knee on the floor or your left foot, lower the front of your right hip downward to create an easy stretch. Stretching Your Muscles in 4 Easy Ways When you stretch regularly, your muscles retain their ability to lengthen, improving your body’s flexibility and mobility. Here are some stretches you can do at home: 1.Hip stretch. Sit on the floor with your legs extended in front of you. Cross your leg over your right. Rest your left foot on the outside of your right knee. Interlace your fingers around your left knee. Pull your knee across your body toward your right shoulder until you... feel an easy stretch on the side of your hip. Then repeat with your right leg. 2.Groin stretch. Lie on your back on the floor. Bending your knees let your legs fall open, and touch the soles of your feet together. This comfortable position will stretch your groin. If necessary, place a small pillow under your neck and head for more comfort. 3.Hamstring stretch. Lie on your back on the floor, with both legs straight. Relax, interlace your fingers underneath your left thigh, and then pull your left leg toward your chest. Keep the back of your head on the floor, but don’t strain. Then repeat with your right leg. 4.Upper back stretch. Lie on your back on the floor, with your knees bent. Interlace your fingers behind your head, and rest your arms on the floor. Using the power of your arms, slowly bring your head, neck, and shoulders forward until you feel a slight stretch. Do not overstretch; you should not feel pain in your head, neck, or shoulders.
